5.5.0 on Mac: constant spinning with no mouse movement, and how to fix

by Tesseract » Post

I'm posting this in case someone else encounters the same problem.

I installed Minetest installed Macports (macports.org). Today I upgraded to 5.5.0, as that version is now available in Macports. When I first launched the new version, I got a dialog box about the app wanting to control my computer, and I cancelled that. When I launched a world, my view was constantly spinning, so fast the landscape was strobing around me. By carefully moving the mouse I got the view to stop spinning rapidly, and I discovered that the mouse position was controlling a constant rotation of the view. For example, moving the mouse slightly to the left would cause the view to slowly but constantly rotate counterclockwise. Remembering that dialog, I went into System Preferences and gave Minetest control permission, then the mouse controlled the view properly. If anyone else has a similar problem:

System Preferences -> Security -> click the lock, enter your password -> Privacy -> Accessibility -> find Minetest, check the box next to it
