Same problems here. I'm desperate at this point. Every time I get on I can literally watch my FPS rate drop lower and lower.

Just push R key in order to enable the viewing of the areas you've explored or just calculate the area you are exploring .

i stated that r doesnt matter..if you go into a deep mine then look up you will lag..because everything is still loaded into your memory

There is a value in minetest.conf.example called "client_unload_unused_data_timeout = 600". Try adding it to your minetest.conf and setting it to something like 5. Anything below 5 caused the game to blink annoyingly when I tried it however.

I don't think there's a file called that in Ubuntu. I can't find it anywhere.

Did you install the game? If so there should be a hidden folder named .minetest in your home folder that contains the minetest.conf.

In most file managers, like nautilus or pcmanfm, pressing CTRL-H will turn on showing hidden folders. There should also be an option under the "view" menu, depending on which file manager you use.

I added the line "client_unload_unused_data_timeout = 5" to "minetest.conf". Is this right? Because it still dropped. ._.

thank you for that!! but this should be lowered in the vanilla game! because 600 is way too much for even my pc with 4 gb of ram to handle!
