Minetest on Raspberry Pi
Is it possible to get MineTest working on the Raspberry Pi 0,1,2, & 3?

Re: Minetest on Raspberry Pi
That's very intresting. I wonder how good it'll run on the Pi2 I have. Afaik the graphics capabilities didn't change much between those versions, and most of the problems with MT on the PI resulted from driver incompatibilities?MineYoshi wrote: It does run with the latest drivers.

Re: Minetest on Raspberry Pi
I am pretty sure it runs on the RasPi, since it does run on the tinkerboard, too.
But 10 FPS are a little slow for my taste.

Re: Minetest on Raspberry Pi
Hi
First, sorry for my english I'm a frenchie :)
I just get a Raspberry Pi 3 (Model B) and I try to run Minetest. It "works" but 0-1 FPS...
I saw video on youtube where a gay managed to run minetest and play it on RasPi, so it must be possible... does anyone know how ?

Re: Minetest on Raspberry Pi
The answer is „recompiling“. But I don’t know how much that would do.

Re: Minetest on Raspberry Pi
I have played this on my Rasberry Pi 3. It works fine using noobs and installing the package provided. The only issue with it is the Wifi is horrible, so plan on using an ethernet cable not the wifi.
Addendum: you should set the Raspberry pi to use full desktop acceleration. Also turn off all the accelerator options like fancy leaves and such. Take everything down to minimal and use ethernet, and its great. I do have head sinks on both the CPU and the graphics chip.

Re: Minetest on Raspberry Pi
That is interesting! I alway get only 2-5 FPS on a Raspi 3 :-(
.. runnnig the latest Raspian ...
... can you please specify your settings on Raspberry?
What do you mean with
" It works fine using noobs and installing the package provided."
Which package do you mean?
Do you have special drivers for OpenGL?
I found an instruction on
http://www.ocsmag.com/2016/04/04/mining-for-education/
"Minetest requires OpenGL, a collection of free and open source 3D libraries. To activate OpenGL run
.
sudo raspi-config
.
select Advanced Options and then AA GL Driver, Enable, and Ok.
This will start the experimental OpenGL driver for your desktop."
Best wishes from Germany,
Heiko
P.S.
We are doing a lot of Minetest-Projects with young people & would love to use the Raspberry as a Platform for that - until now we are using "old laptops" :-(

Sorry I did not see this until now. I will get that information and post it for you.web2write wrote:That is interesting! I alway get only 2-5 FPS on a Raspi 3 :-(

It is running NOOBS OS (which is a debian based free software distribution).
The kernel version is 4.9.59-v7+ (dc4@dc4-XPS13-9333) (gcc version 4.9.3)
Processor is ARMv7 revision 4
Machine Model is Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Revision 1.2
To get the minetest client to run I first got online (before the WiFi stopped working)
I added a password to protect the pi account. I added another account and added the same groups as pi, including the pi group. (You can probably just use the pi account, however when I play minetest I am not logged in as pi.)
I updated every package.
I used the raspi-config utility to change the graphics settings: 7 Advanced options --> A7 GL Driver --> changed from Legacy to G1 Full KMS. Rebooted. This increased the burden on the graphics chip, and all windows functions were accelerated by the chip.
I installed minetest and minetest-data. The version installed: 0.4.15+repack2-1
To do this I used the command apt-get install minetest
I hope this helps.
