That's a great summary of the more pressing obstacles faced by developers. Incidentally, I tackled the dropdown issue in the latest alpha version of ActiveFormspecs.

In the near future I plan to make state of all elements available to the on_close callback. So there will no longer be the need to remember which fields are passed only when the element is changed vs. which are passed only when a button is pressed.
