Re: Minetest:Xbox One and PS4 Edition?
They are both proprietary stores, so I doubt they would like an open source project.
I also doubt Minetest would pass the quality tests. It needs to run for over a day with out crashing due to memory leaks, and they probably want games that are reasonably bug free.
Also, Minetest is a Minecraft clone, and a lot of people are hostile to that.
You can't run a game without it being on the store, due to DRM, AFAIK. Unless you have a development rig.
If this game was in the store, less people would buy Minecraft, meaning Microsoft/Sony lose out on profits.

Fun little factoid: Nintendo loves INDIE. They have little to NONE restrictions, except ~£7 in price. (Which justifies buying the Nintendo license and development for the platform.)rubenwardy wrote:They are both propriety stores, so I doubt they would like an open source project.

Their SDK probably is proprietary and banishes free/libre games. So, no.Jordach wrote:[They have little to NONE restrictions, except ~£7 in price. (Which justifies buying the Nintendo license and development for the platform.)
rubenwardy: Minetest is not a Minecraft clone. It would be if the behaviour was exactly the same. Also, the correct spelling is “proprietary”.

It is a Minecraft clone. The behaviour is very similar.Calinou wrote:rubenwardy: Minetest is not a Minecraft clone. Re: Minetest:Xbox One and PS4 Edition?
no because then without proper mod chips, modding would not be posible exept through the mod store. and many people will be disapointed. i also would say that the controlls might be too hard for some people.

We had a discussion on Steam. It is too early, for now. However, both Jordach and I* use steam as a game launcher, and play MT while chatting to our Steam pals.
*Fudge yeah grammar!

Well, if you add Minetest into Steam right now, as a non-Steam game, you will get the overlay;
As well as the screenshots library and other cool stuff. But the coolest part would be, say ChainLynx started playing Minetest on a random server, and didn't know which one, I can click that little dropdown, hit join game, and then Minetest will join that server with your usual login details. (Oh god that would be friggin amazing btw)

This isn't going to happen, it needs official Steam implementation.Jordach wrote:But the coolest part would be, say ChainLynx started playing Minetest on a random server, and didn't know which one, I can click that little dropdown, hit join game, and then Minetest will join that server with your usual login details. How hard is "official" anything on Steam? I mean, you can play beta software there, already.

Re: Minetest:Xbox One and PS4 Edition?
To get Minetest onto Steam, you need to get a community greenlight, that is, get a significant number of steam users to agree that Minetest is indeed a game that deserves being on steam. With the general idiotic human race bent on calling MT a ripoff, I don't see this happening anytime in the near future.gsmanners wrote:How hard is "official" anything on Steam? And BTW, forget beta. You'd be surprised by the sheer number of broken software on steam, more broken than even Minetest 0.4.9 stable. Ever heard of Ubisoft? Tom Clancy? Ya, their latest free2play is as broken as humpty dumpty when he fell off that dang wall.

Re: Minetest:Xbox One and PS4 Edition?
This is an idea I also thought about :D But I cannot compile, my Playstation 2 is not modded and probably the hardware might be a bit too "dusty" ;)playzooki wrote:it would be awesome if someone ported it to the ps2 lol
