Version 0.11.0 released!
This is the first version which is not too terribly weird. :-)
If you knew this mod from before, I suggest you give it a try again.

Changelog:
  • Remove dependency on torches mod
  • Don't build corridors into unloaded areas
  • Corridors now actually depend on the world seed. Same seed = same corridors
  • 55% of all rail corridor systems have damaged railways (railways with gaps)
  • More default/fallback treasures when Treasurer is not installed
  • Stop rail corridors at obstacles such as dungeons and other rail corridors. Rail corridors look much more orderly since this gets rid of some very chaotic and strange rail corridors
  • New setting “Chaos Mode” to re-enable the old chaotic rail corridors
  • Bugfix: Chests could sometimes be dug into the floor
  • Fix more floating rail bugs
  • Rail corridors try to avoid liquids as good as possible
  • Fix very long corridors with a wooden floor without being a bridge (but note the next change)
  • Replace falling nodes (sand, gravel, etc.) on floor with wood


Please, report all floating rails you can find. Just post a screenshot in debug mode with the mapgen name.

Those are some great improvements!
Default: Y=-30 or below.

I'm thinking a lower limit would be really useful in order to coexist with other underground mods.

There are so many underground mods it is hard to find a default height which satisfies all.

I chose a height assuming plain Minetest Game or v6 mapgen. This height is not too deep so players don't need to dig forever to find the first rail corridor.

Feel free to suggest a different default height, but please give a rationale as well.

I see! I would set no default minimum height then, but still offer a global setting variable to do so. That way it's opt-in and you won't have to research underground mods. :)

- Generate the dirt room at a semi-random height

Updates!
- Add cobwebs (if you use the mod “mobs_monster”: https://github.com/tenplus1/mobs_monster)
- Place random carts (very rare, also spawning often fails because of this bug: https://github.com/minetest/minetest/issues/4759)
- Fix chests sometimes being placed inside the wooden crossing columns
- Add subgame support for mob spawners (not used by default)

I've recently started getting a bunch of these on server crashes. I did run the profiler last night looking for sources of lag. However, the profiler was already enabled in minetest.conf. I've set that to false just now to see if it goes away.

I've got a couple that reference 'carts' and 'default' but all seem to somehow involve railcorridors (I think.) I'm unsure how to read there is an error in something like mod 'carts' but it then references railcorridors.

Is this a corridors issue? A configuration issue? Other? I'd love to keep using it as it adds good variety underground.

  • More config options for games
  • Fix many floating rails
  • Add more variants of the dirt room
  • Railcorridors can dig through wooden supports under certain conditions to form t-junctions
  • Railcorridors can now form t-junctions naturally
  • Improve Perlin noise performance slightly
  • When Minetest failed to spawn a cart, this mod doensn't try to respawn it anymore
  • Torches can be replaced by wood
  • Stricter dirt room generation requirements
  • Disable odd alternating up/down staircases
  • Add platforms for staircases
  • Replace falling block floor with dirt instead of wood
  • Fix many minor map generation weirdnesses

@turducken: Is this bug still present in 0.14.0?

My server is in alpha state right now with lots of expiremental mods going in and out. There are some removed nodes that are probably still in some blocks so that would explain it.

Thanks for the quick patch! This will help my server and game stay up when we hit beta! :)

The corridors are really hard to find without noclip.

Could some of them come to the surface? I'm not saying to generate land rail systems, just to bring some of the rails to the surface and stop there with a corridor going diagonally into the earth.

I haven't seen anymore crashes from this since the last patch. So far so good :)
