[Mod] LTC-4000E Traffic Signal Controller [ltc4000e] [git]

by cheapie » Tue Jan 17, 2017 00:43

This is a controller for the traffic lights from streets (version 1 or 2 works, version 2 recommended) or roads.

It's available in both a pole-mount version:
Image

and a NEMA-ish cabinet version:
Image
Image

Both of them support the same features, including but not limited to:
  • GUI configuration
  • Adjustable timing
  • Optional detector support
  • Left turn and pedestrian signal support
  • Flashing yellow arrow support
  • Density control (through movement only)
  • Preemption
  • Traffic counting
  • Fault logging
  • Full hardware compatibility with the older TrafficNeXt 3+ and LTC-4000 controllers

Instructions:
The pole-mount version is designed to attach directly to a pole from streets or roads, and the digiline signals will travel through the pole. The cabinet version can have digilines connected directly, a pole running next to it, or a digilines distributor (again from streets or roads) two nodes below.

To access the menu system, right-click the controller. The cabinet type needs to have its door opened first (left-click). You can then change settings as desired, although the defaults are suitable for a 3-way or 4-way intersection with no left turn or pedestrian signals.

Each approach to the intersection is assigned a letter (click "Menu" and then "Monitoring" to see a diagram). The traffic lights should be on the following digilines channels:
"a" - Straight-through on approach A
"b" - Straight-through on approach B
"c" - Straight-through on approach C
"d" - Straight-through on approach D
"at" - Left turn on approach A
"bt" - Left turn on approach B
"ct" - Left turn on approach C
"dt" - Left turn on approach D
"ap" - Pedestrian crossing across approach A
"bp" - Pedestrian crossing across approach B
"cp" - Pedestrian crossing across approach C
"dp" - Pedestrian crossing across approach D

Detectors can be anything that will emit a digilines signal on the proper channel, however the digilines player detectors and buttons from digistuff are recommended. They should emit signals on these channels:
"detector_a" - Straight-through on approach A (optional, but traffic will be counted if present)
"detector_b" - Straight-through on approach B
"detector_c" - Straight-through on approach C (optional, but traffic will be counted if present)
"detector_d" - Straight-through on approach D
"detector_at" - Left turn on approach A
"detector_bt" - Left turn on approach B
"detector_ct" - Left turn on approach C
"detector_dt" - Left turn on approach D
"detector_ap" - Pedestrian crossing across approach A
"detector_bp" - Pedestrian crossing across approach B
"detector_cp" - Pedestrian crossing across approach C
"detector_dp" - Pedestrian crossing across approach D
"preempt_a" - Preemption for approach A
"preempt_b" - Preemption for approach B
"preempt_c" - Preemption for approach C
"preempt_d" - Preemption for approach D

Dependencies: default,digilines

Is this in your streets mod or is this an extra? And this is perfect because my students and I were just trying to figure out traffic lights!!

It's not included in streets (or roads), but is intended to work with those mods.

I just got to start messing with these in class and it was so excited to see the traffic lights turn colors! I still have a lot to learn but my students were flipping out in excitement at us getting a working intersection and we actually got yelled at because a girl was being too loud going "MMMMMM" as she was driving her car. She was having by far the most fun I've ever seen her have when she is typically kind of grumpy and I didn't have the heart to calm her down. My boss yelling did though :)

I need some help setting up a middle-of-the-block signaled crosswalk. What must I select to get a normal green unless a digistuff button is pressed by a pedestrian. Is there a difference using A-C or B-D streets for this? I do not understand anything about traffic control terminology and there seems to be no manual or guide to this. On the digistuff button there is a "channel" which I set to "detector_bp" but what is the message supposed to be? I tried "enter" but don't know if that is correct.

If you select "monitoring" in the menu, you can see a diagram of what the "A/B/C/D" means. For your use case, I recommend putting the traffic lights on "a" and/or "c", the pedestrian signals on "bp" and/or "dp", and the buttons on "detector_bp" and/or "detector_dp". The message doesn't matter. Make sure that you set approaches B and/or D to have signalized pedestrian movements in the hardware setup menu.

Doesn't seem to be working right - the buttons control the pedestrian signals correctly but the traffic lights (A and C) are wrong - green on walk and always seem to be on.

Hardware Setup: Signal Type - streets 1 (VanessaE's Dreambuilder Modpack); Pedestrian Button Type - Normal; both Pedestrian B and D types - Signalized

Mode/Schedule: Normal Mode - Sensor

Nothing else changed by me. Let me know if you need info on the other panels.

You're using all lowercase for the channel names, right? Are the digilines connected properly? Do the lights change if you manually enter a call on "Pedestrian B" or "Pedestrian D"?

Yes, lowercase. Control panel is on the same "pole" (from streets mod) as the traffic lights, digilines from the control panel distributor connect to each crosswalk light distributor. Crosswalk lights change (both on the pole that has the control panel and the sidewalk crossing lights on the other 2 distributors) from the control panel.

The traffic lights change from the control panel manually also.

Here's my setup on the lights/buttons. You can see the white "Walk" signal and the green traffic light

...ah, I think I see the problem. It's been so long since I even used this mod that I forgot how to set that up :P
Instead of using "bp" and "dp", try "ap" and "cp".

The LTC-4000E usually rests on A/C green, so if you just want it to be green until the button is pressed, put the lights on "a" or "c" and the button on "detector_ap" or "detector_cp"

I love the inside cabinet textures. They look surprisingly realistic!

You put a start and stop hour (using real-life time, not in-game time) in the start and stop time boxes, and then select a "normal mode" that it will run in outside of those times and a "scheduled mode" for it to run in during those times.

For example, if you want it to run using sensors during the day, but flash (or otherwise hold in a given state, as set on the "phase lock" screen) between 9 PM and 5 AM, you can set it up like this:

Would it be possible to add left and right doghouse signals (and their signs) to the mix of traffic signals you have? (see attached for reference)

VanessaE has created the signs (in this mod) but doghouse signals would require too many nodes to handle all states - by my count, 56 nodes to do both left and right with the current level of support the other signals have, so possible but not practical.
