[mod] Fun Tools [fun_tools]

Fun_tools adds a chainsaw, jackhammer and flare gun. The chainsaw cuts down whole trees (usually) and makes a slow, but powerful weapon. The jackhammer digs large volumes of rock and minerals. The flare gun shoots a number of bright, but short-lived flares into a volume, lighting it up briefly.

I've also added a simple bed made from four leaves, for beginning characters, and a decorative body pillow that can be used as a bed.

Since I'm dropping my elixirs mod, I moved the molotov cocktail and naptha into fun_tools. (Appropriate, since naptha is a requirement for the internal combustion engine the power tools depend on.) These are based on NPX's wonderful Not So Simple Bombs API.

Chainsaw being a fun tool? You're destroying the nature, that's somewhat damaging for the nature! ;)
I especially like the flare gun, as it's always hard to see what's in a new discovered cave that isn't flooded with bright lava.

the flare gun, i tested it to explore big caves, it's very useful, but i had to modify it to make it super durable because it breaks soooo fast...

If you keep extra powder in your inventory, it will reload itself.

You mean, when you don't have extra powder. Yes, I was thinking of real flare guns, which usually only fire once.

i would be like you flintlock pistol, you fire, the flare last for a long time and then you need to craft it with powder... +1

I've added a body pillow similar to my first mod, but using a nodebox.

I've added the flintlock pistol from fun_guns, and cleaned up the code quite a bit. Hopefully, it works a bit better.

I also added the golden tesseract, a line of sight teleporter. It's a good gold drain, since gold's not worth much in my game.

Magic Beans

I've added magic beans that grow into an easily climbable beanstalk. This has several advantages over dirt towers. For one thing, you can burn the beanstalk down if you get sick of it. In theory you can go as high as you want with this, but it might get tiring since each bean only produces 80 meters of stalk.

There's no formula to make the beans. In my game, they drop from rainbow grass in the cloudscape.

Torch Light

I've added a simple torchlight feature that causes flare_air nodes to appear at your head when you're wielding a default torch. They vanish as you move away (though you'll still leave a bit of a glowing trail). They also burn out your torch in about ten minutes or less, removing it from the wielded stack.

Since this obviously takes a fair amount of cpu time, I added a switch to shut it off. Set "fun_tools_torchlight = false" in minetest.conf to disable it.

Edit: Interestingly enough, the flare_air nodes cause a flickering effect, a bit like a torch sputtering. : )

Ok, I replied instead of editing, but since I'm here...

I've separated the huge init.lua into separate files again, since it's getting out of hand. I also added naptha and molotov cocktails from the elixirs mod, which I'm about to drop.

Most importantly, I've updated the recipes in the first post.

Big Flare

I've added the incendiary device, which burns, when smacked with a torch, lighting up a very large area for up to a minute. The recipe is:

empty, steel ingot, empty
empty, gunpowder, empty
paper, gunpowder, paper

Replace the steel with bonedust, if you're running nmobs.

I've added a primitive metal detector. It tells you the general direction of the nearest mass of metal or metal ore. For some strange reason (heh), it detects chests as well, whether they contain metal or not.

Naturally, if you use this around your home base, you'll detect your own possessions.
