how do i make mods? i would like to make a mod where when you die you go to a heck or heaven depending on what you did in the game.

That's not possible to do with the Lua API in its current state (or not in a proper way).
Mods are made in Lua, you'll have to learn the basics of it to make mods for Minetest.

Yes, that is possible, but with great effort. You might have already seen this: http://minetest.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1648
Combine Jordach's drop items when you die mod and the Aether/Nether mod, and you'd be able to do this :)
I'm working on making a scripting language to make this easier to do

but your idea of going to hell or heaven... good idea! What would differentiate from a "good" person and a "bad" one?

Karma. Slaying innocent animals (cows) would give you negative, while slaying monsters would give positive. :-)

actually what i was thinking was implanting npc's so you can do good quests or bad quests bad gets you to hell but you get good powers and good gets you other powers and go to heaven sound like a good idea?

that is true and also i will make a map if i knew how and make it the hunters island where you need to choose the quests and hunt monsters and kill npcs for quests etc.

From there, open the default mods that come with Minetest and look around. After that, look at other people's mods in the Mod Releases forum to see how they're doing things. After that, start with building a simple test node and go from there.

All of my BobBlocks mod is based on the above formula\learning (minus reading the tutorial, it came after I started playing around).
