Genesis 38:8 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.

Maybe it's better to just make a quotebot instead, and allow people to choose and download other sets of quotes for their server. Some may want an Quranbot or a FlyingSpaghettibot.

My personal favorite quote list would be something that's a little bit less science fiction, though, like The Hitch Hikers' Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams.

i do agree that not all the verses in the KJV Bible are umm pleasant to have popup, but why not have a list of inspirational verses, maikerumine?

that way you could avoid verses like this XD.

In response to ThomasMonroe's post.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
2nd Timothy 3:16

The word spired means breathed, so you expire, you breath out. And if you inspire, you breath in. And with that in mind, the above verse means that the Bible is literally God breathed. Now that is inspirational!

You are right that some parts of the Bible are not pleasant to read, but keep in mind; so are parts of most novels on Amazon. This section here deals with Judah's sons. The first one, God killed because he was wicked, and his death left his wife with no lineage, and no children. Therefore, Judah told his second son to get her pregnant, so his first's sons lineage would continue, and his first son's wife would have an inheritance. The second son knew this, and decided that he did not want a son that would not be his. Therefore, God also killed him, because he displeased God.

Here though is the most inspirational part, God sent his Son to die in the place of our punishment. The punishment is for our sins, things like lying, theft, adultery (and Jesus said that if you even look at a woman with lust, you commit adultery with her in you heart, yikes!), and murder(Jesus said that if you even get mad at someone you commit murder in you heart. Well if you could have, and gotten away with it, you would have KILLED that guy that cut you off in traffic this morning!). The punishment for our sin is to be eternally in hell, a place that is constantly on fire with no escape. Now that you know that you are a sinner (if you lie once you are a liar, if you sin ONCE then you are a sinner), and why you are a sinner, let's talk about salvation and how you can escape hell (the location of punishment, a place that is always on fire). God loved us so much, that he sent His Son (Jesus) to die in our place, only He, a sinless person, could pay the debt. He took on the sin of the whole world, of all time, and He died on the cross so we could live in heaven. But Jesus rose from the dead on the third day, conquering death, and sin, proving that He is God. And after a while (I think it was 40 days, I can't remember) He ascended into heaven. Jesus said that he who believes and is baptized (the baptism is a public confession of faith, not necessary for salvation) will be saved; but he who does not believe, will be condemned. So what it comes down to is believing on Him, that He died on the cross to pay for your sins, repenting from your sins (turning away from sins, but also turning to God), and asking for forgiveness. The Bible tells us," the righteous live by faith" in the book of Hebrews, chapter 11, and many other places in the Word.

God bless! I hope this helps.
I made another post on the second page. It has more info. Post.

Random verses from the bible without context can be kinda weird.
The verses need to be stand alone nuggets of wisdom.

I would suggest using psalms or proverbs,
but some of them don't do so well on their own without context either.

Yea, proverbs has a lot of great stuff in it.

I would suggest instead of verses, maybe have groups of verses. That way they won't be out of context.
I know that this requires a lot of work though, so the way it is right now is okay.

Also maybe you could add, /verse_NT, and /verse_OT. For the New and Old Testaments.

Thanks for taking time to make this mod maikerumine!

I am not to sorry if any of you are offended, It makes me chuckle actually. :D

My plan is to eventually have a search function that chooses book/chapter/verse, but this is tricky to do.
You would type: "/John,3,16" or "/john 3 16" to get the selected verse.
Also, A general chapter like: "/Titus 1-5" etc. Since the document is already indexed this may be an easy task, if it isn't there is also a folder method that might work as well.
Currently I am busy IRL to do much coding, however plan on more later.

If one is as so much offended by the Bible then you can modify to suit your tastes without causing such a ruckus as to which you believe your beliefs are superior to others. :D

meh..expressing criticism isn't the same as taking offense.

Good luck with the planned upgrades :)

Considering the possabilities of the idea of this mod how about a generic quote bot. You could choose a source book ingame or rather File and you get random quotes out of that Source. I guess most functionality is allready out there in some mod or other. The wiki mod or the Gutenberg mod might have usefull functions that could be nice to have in some combined Version. I mean like buying a poetry book infame, taking it elswere an maybe placing it on some citing gadget to trigger the quoting.

The quotes work fine with this mod, no need to "make it a mod on github".
The quotes were kind of a gag anyways,
I was just funning with sofar.

I am glad you liked them tho :)

I have never been able to suffer through one of Douglas Adams' boring books,
but reading/compiling these quotes was actually fun.

Yes, the God delusion posts were removed.
As Napiophelios already stated, this topic is not the right place to critically discuss the contents of the bible.

I ask you to move this discussion elsewhere or ideally not have it at all as nothing is bound to come of it.
Note that any further offtopic posts in this thread will also be removed.

Okay, thanks for your reply. The reason I reposted it was that I did not receive a PM telling me not to post what I did. I understand why you want to keep things light on this forum.

Can someone explain how to make this mod work?

NVM, I figured it out :) You have to copy/move mt_biblebot from the mod dir to the world dir.
