Not only because of the obvious and intended copyright infringement. The mod is hosted on Dropbox (no, just don’t do that. it adds zero convenience for everyone. Just use git and host on GitLab) and there are no screenshots (no screenshots - no downloads. it’s as simple as that), no license information (which implicitly makes the mod proprietary licensed non-free software) or whatsoever.

The underlying patents of the brick design expired in the late 1980s, opening the field to rivals.
( which allowed competitors to enter the market. )

You can obviously build bricks but you can not use the name of this famous brand.

However, the minifig are a trademark and therefore you can not use them.

A patent gives an inventor the right for a limited period to stop others from making, using or selling an invention without the permission of the inventor. In return for the disclosure of his invention the inventor is given a short term monopoly in the use of it for a period of 20 years after which time it passes into the public domain. The basic purpose of the patent system is to encourage innovation and the improvement of industrial techniques. Patents are generally intended to cover products or processes that possess or contain new functional or technical aspects; patents are therefore concerned with how things work, what they do, how they do it, what they are made of or how they are made.
"

Since there is no real product being made or for sell there should be no Patent problem There are other free software programs that use legos. For instance LegoCad is one. Lego is not going to go after a person for making free software since it would not be a cost effective effort. Worst comes to worse just rename the mod to something like Lebo bricks. That way there is no patent problem besides that patent no longer exists since it has been over 20 Years.

Not sure if you really want to host on GitHub since it is a Microsoft-owned site. But here's how to use GitLab for hosting your Git repositories: https://docs.gitlab.com/ee/README.html# ... ith-gitlab

Wow. I wasn't aware GitHub was owned by Microsoft. Scary.

Anyway, GitLab is about the same as Github in that you'd have your code hosted using nonfree code. If you're looking for a free alternative, there's also NotABug <https://notabug.org/>, which uses the free software, Gogs, to host your projects. Plus, y'know, they have a cooler name.

GitLab CE (GitLab for hosting it on own servers) uses the MIT license. So while the GitLab.com service is commercial (but has free “gold” hosting for open-source projects one can apply for) GitLab itself is open-source.
