This mod lets players change the description text of a key by punching a sign with it; the text of the sign is copied to the description text of the key. Only "Key to " is appended to the original text, so the sign has to be explicit.
Currently the mod only works with wood signs. It doesn't do the same thing with steel signs because the description is changed without confirmation, so players could accidentally overwrite a key description. It's easy to edit the mod so that it works only on steel signs instead, or both (just copy/paste and edit).

This is cool. A lot better than the ugly coordinates.

Re: [WIP] Key labels
Maybe don't add "Key to " so names like "Magic Key" or similar are possible.
Re: [WIP] Key labels
Not adding anything was my first idea. I however added "key to" thinking about about the sign above e.g. a chest would have to read "Key to community chest" which would look weird. OTOH the sign which labels the key doesn't have to remain on the wall; or "community chest" is a good enough label - it's pretty obvious it is a key after all.
Also, Krock noted that I should limit the length of the text because of potential abuse.
