[Mod] Universal hand light [illumination]
Ladies and gentlemen.
For years, we have suffered in the dark, when the tools of light lay in our very hands.
Today, I offer salvation.
Today...
I offer...
Illumination!
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you a mod that shatters the veil of darkness that has been draped over our eyes, and illuminates the path ahead!
A mod that allows us to light our way with any item with a corresponding node that emits light, by producing an amount of light fairly close to what that node would emit naturally, so that you can find your way home by its light!
If you desire, download the mod, and may you never find yourself without light!
License
Note: This mod is designed to be straightforward and reliable more than anything else, and does not focus on light around dropped items. If you are looking for a mod that provides light around dropped items, but doesn't try as hard to find a suitable light position, see wielded_light

weilded_light is much better as it offers a simple API making it possible to use illumination for any purpose.
(tested it a couple of days ago and had fun with it)

Like setting overrides for ignoring items' light values, or emitting light for other reasons?Pyrollo wrote:weilded_light is much better as it offers a simple API making it possible to use illumination for any purpose.

I didn't really bother with the dropped item aspect, which I see you did manage to pull off pretty well.bell07 wrote:Please compare also to my wielded_light mod.
Hm, I see my nod needs your canLight detection oO.

Emitting light for other reasons.Piezo_ wrote:Like setting overrides for ignoring items' light values, or emitting light for other reasons?Pyrollo wrote:weilded_light is much better as it offers a simple API making it possible to use illumination for any purpose.
I just used wielded light to create effects like lighten player and mobs using wielded_light.update_light and it worked perfectly (code to be published soon). This function is very convenient for creating any sort of light effects.

that depends entirely what you're looking for; I don't particularly need an API, I just wanted to be able to walk around with a torch in my hand, so this was exactly what I was looking for :)Pyrollo wrote:weilded_light is much better as it offers a simple API making it possible to use illumination for any purpose.
Cheers Piezo, nice mod!
(I also quite enjoy your enthusiastic way of "selling" the mods, ha ha)

I'll say, though, wielded_light looks like it does what it aims to quite well, and if someone's looking for something that is more robust and configurable instead of a mod that "Works as expected at all costs" (the latter being illumination in a nutshell), then by all means!acidzebra wrote: that depends entirely what you're looking for; I don't particularly need an API, I just wanted to be able to walk around with a torch in my hand, so this was exactly what I was looking for :)

Thanks for the cheers, I'm working on keeping more coming! (A complete overhaul of this mod is in its beta-run on my server right now!)

Re: [Mod] Universal hand light [illumination]
This is just a little addition to the illumination mod that illuminates all items in the hotbar instead of only wielded one. So, you can place a torch in your hotbar and switch to any tool, you will still keep glowing.
Also added an option to turn this feature off.
