[Mod] lakes with vegetation / highlandpools [lakes]

by Sokomine » Post

This mod was inspired by paramts Above sea level pools (highlandpools) mod. It uses a diffrent algorithm than highlandpools and does some things diffrently.

A tiny lake:

Features:
  • lakes are filled with river water
  • the ground of the lake is turned into clay (can't have enough of that as a building material)
  • trees and leaves inside the lake are removed
  • waterlilys can be found on the water
  • bushes, berry bushes, papyrus and grass will be planted alongside the shore (plants love water)
  • snowy regions only have a few pine bushes on their shore
Some snowy lakes:

That is awesome! A bit more papyrus than I prefer, but I can deal with that. I'm guessing most of our players will migrate to our new server.

Interesting mod! But if there is so much vegetation, the water should have algae in it :)

I love the concept it seems to frequently have issues with trees, at least on the carpathian mapgen.

It also leaves behind floating snow in taigas

Also works on custom Lua mapgens. Here's one at the edge of the woods:

Looks fine, but could you add a chance for generating them? For me it's a bit too much of lakes.

Looking good! Any way to add biomes and/or biome-specific vegetation types? An oasis with date palms would be a great proof of concept.

That’s a great idea because it would make deserts more interesting. At this point no biome detection seems present but it’s easy to add nowadays.

I was wondering. I was getting acacia bushes in the middle of apple/aspen forests, and figured biomes weren't supported. At least yet. Wasn't going to have time to look into it until Wednesday or so, tho.

Awesome - I'm super happy someone has created a different take on the original which despite some issues in newer mapgens is still a favorite mod of mine. I've taken a few stabs at it myself but I'm an utter noob at lua, and the original's documentation was a little sparse.

This mod does have some issues with trees added by other mods, as an example https://github.com/DokimiCU/aotearoa causes lots of "water trees".
