[Mod]Automatically Downloaded GitHub Skins[skins]

by Oil_boi » Post

What does this do?
It automatically applies your skin to your character when you join a server with it enabled using your GitHub name.

How do I use it?

1.) You must enable the mod in your client, or drop the mod into MTG mod directory.

Server - preferred you just drop it into the MTG mods directory because it's easier.

2.) Next you must add this to your minetest.conf for the mod to have HTTP access:

Code: Select all

secure.http_mods = skins
3.) Then you must create a GitHub repository called "crafter_skindex" containing a skin.png file.

See my repo for an example: https://github.com/oilboi/crafter_skindex

You can download skins here: http://minetest.fensta.bplaced.net/

Or for a bigger selection you can use the Skindex: https://www.minecraftskins.com/

Then convert them to Minetest using: https://minetest.tv/skin-converter.php

Here is a video of it in action: https://youtu.be/-sHgQQXRSYI
(The red http error is fixed thanks to sfan5)

Magnificent! Perhaps one day this can be turned into a library for easy dynamic loading of PNGs for whatever purpose.

Thanks! And yes it could be. I'm not sure what it can be used for besides this very specific purpose yet though because it is rather limited with the 64KB string limit
