I had a look at your mod and it looks like a solid weather mod.
Given how lightweight this version is, I can see how some people might prefer it. It should be able to run on most potato PC's and still result in pleasing visuals, which is what most people are after.

With that said, I do feel a little bit ripped off, though. I do not mind other people expanding on my ideas or even my code. But it would've been nice to be mentioned at least, given how you're reusing my ideas regarding localized weather, hud overlays for sandstorms, etc. I'll take that as an honest mistake. I am more bugged about the mod's name. "climate" is of course a rather descriptive term for localized weather, so I do not claim any rights to that. I would still ask you respectfully to think of something other than "climatez" because it will confuse people into mixing up both of our mods. That, of course, cannot be in either of our interests. I would like to talk to people about my mod without explicitly having to state that I'm not talking about this one. And you would surely want to be able to do the same.
Of course I took ideas from your mod and other mods. I know it's called creative inspiration over ready-made art. The great geniuses have always done it. Picasso i.e. And it's not that I consider myself a genius :-D

I mean no code involved.

I will write some mentions in the next mod update.

Regarding the mod name, i did not like it by the same motive, but i did not found a another name suitable to fit Weather/Climate in english language. I will rename it, the long name, but the short name I cannot cos it would cause crashes on already installed systems.

suggestion: have a setting where you can enable strong storms... during the storm the wind is strong enough to push players and mobsredo and mobkit mobs around. it could do this by adding velocity in the wind direction. also the light is reduced and the visibility is reduced

There are already storms: more dense rain and lightings.

But yes. I could improve them.

I really like this mod but I have to disable thunder and lightning because when I am deep under ground and a storm happens, I see the lightning and hear the thunder down there.

like, runs, i mean the original MOD, i like it's "primitive" score, it's One of My favorite climate MODS at the moment, and i'd hate to see It change, or have new options, i use many primitive MODS, in actuality, and the short bursts of RAIN, help Me appreciate That

The raindrops were made to increase the yield, instead of droplet particles, particles of a bunch of droplets, hence the burst effect. I sacrificed performance for reality, but maybe it is suitable for storms. I will study it...

Anyway you have the original mod intact to use it, if you like it better.

feature requests:
1) if other_worlds and planet_mars are installed, make dust storms on mars
2) IDK if its possible or if it is, if it would be fast still, but could you make little ripples on the surface of water when a raindrop hit it?... it could just be an animated ripple texture shown on the surface of the water... full water nodes only, cause flowing would look weird

3) pls implement a setting for the max height of weather that would override the normal max setting of cloud height: I want to have weather on my sky islands, but not in space. Alternatively, make climate_height_max a global var so I can override it from my customization mod

Code: Select all

feature requests:
1) if other_worlds and planet_mars are installed, make dust storms on mars
Sandstorms occur on deserts based on temp/hum. I would to known what biome names and values on those other worlds.

Code: Select all

2) IDK if its possible or if it is, if it would be fast still, but could you make little ripples on the surface of water when a raindrop hit it?... it could just be an animated ripple texture shown on the surface of the water... full water nodes only, cause flowing would look weird
Yes, I could do it. But as an option, cos it would add some load.

Code: Select all

3) pls implement a setting for the max height of weather that would override the normal max setting of cloud height: I want to have weather on my sky islands, but not in space. Alternatively, make climate_height_max a global var so I can override it from my customization mod
Done.

thx! Some balencing feedback: IMO lightning flashes should be a lot subtler (more alpha) and thunder should be louder.

since youre using the hud, maybe use an image for the flash that only shows the flash around the edges... you know ow when you arent looking directly at lightning irl it seems that the flash is just outside your vision, on the peripheral? noticeable but not blinding?

Overall its great compared to the weather mod... no lag from it which is saying something! thx!

Hi,

How could we change the height of clouds ? Honestly, I find them a bit too low.

Yes, edit the setting in climatez.conf

If you meant in Minetest the height for clouds can be changed in minetest.conf

Do i just need to add a line like this ?cloud_height = integer value.
I mean for climatez only as have already done with minetest.conf but without success.

There is a file "climatez.conf" inside the climatez mod folder.

Change this line to what ever you want :)
climate_max_height = 120

Is there a way to make the rain "heavier"? Rain looks pretty pathetic, more like a sprinkle than a rain.

Efficiency reasons. I will do an update to tweak.
