So was it mine. Tried fixing it last time but the code didn't work like i expected it would. The "spawning loops" need some improvement.

I like the craft recipes. Especially the (black) clay lumps to create pieces.

tonyka, the new numbers and border pattern textures look great. I will try to implement them today or very soon. Requires me to make border nodes and making them spawn in the correct spot. Shouldn't be a to big task.

I played a match with my housemate. I was wondering how a minetest chess game would play like. I noticed that digging and placing nodes was fun, although many times my housemate forgot to dig the nodes and only punched them, like he was selecting his move. Then i though we could do that to. When you punch a piece you select it and a selection node hovers ontop of the piece the player selected and then the player punches the node it want's the piece to move to. Just an idea. I like the piece digging method also.

the textures are very easy to make, if they are big, I can make them again, no problem ...
I like the idea of selecting origin and destination, and it may be easier to program movements

Also an idea:
Say you're playing chess with a friend on a server and you have to pee. Well your friend could cheat while you are gone. Could you make it so that one player is registered with white pieces and can only move them and vice versa?

Chess pieces ownership is on the todo list. I'm done with jungle tree mod so the focus is on chess mod for now.

Disco chess for the win. You could make sub-tractable bridge to avoid players reaching the board. Player should then also not be able to place nodes or fly(edit). Is that what you did with the mesecons or is that for the lights?

Added chairs for players. Go over to the levers and pull the lever on the losers side and they will fall out of the chair to their death.

Now has numbers and digits on border for coordinates and spawn node is withing the border. Also updated the chessboard spawn loop. Code is much nicer now.

Tonyka's effort is finally visible!

I like them big numbers, i made a texture for the spawn node. I tried making it the same wood carving style as you did with the coordinates and the carvings at the side... But I gave up trying. Maybe you can think of a nice logo or sign to represent the top texture of the spawn node or redesign the hole spawn node. I'm sure you can think of something... no hurry.

Next thing i'm gonna implement is node selection and make pieces indestructible(not dig-able) plus crafts to make pieces for personal placement and use which are dig-able. Makes sense?

a logo for the top of the block spawn? is a good idea
can look good the contour of a specific piece ...
I like the knight, but perhaps it would be nice to use the rook (the most similar aesthetics Minetest) ...
a more elaborate design would need larger textures ...

I'll think of more ideas, maybe I can think of something better ...

Fixed it. Next on the programming list is chess piece selection. The pieces will be indestructible and moving pieces will be done by first punching the piece you want to move and them hitting the node to which you want to move it.

Any objections/ideas?

cant wait to see it and play with my son, i think we'll build a chess set tomorrow and have a game before you get the rules in

edit: oh i just realised you only have to craft one thing, nice

could you make the recipe a little more exotic so its less likely to collide?

checkers pieces

this is a simple one, i just want to have checkers pieces (with a craft recipe)
checkers can be crowned when they reach the other side, (perhaps a craft where 2 checkers = a crown checker)

Now has node ownership... Others can't move your pieces. How it works:

1. Only the placer of the chess spawner can also remove it.
2. After placing the spawn spawner, all players are prompted to hit the king of his/her desired color if he/she want's to play. This can be the admin or another player.

Recipe also changed because mese is gone:

A grand mine-chess championship in a cathedral or some other setting. Where spectators spectate and players battle it out to be the ultimate minetest chess champion! Anyone willing to host this on there server?

Mese isn't gone - it's still in the game, it just got more rare and expensive to acquire. Dig down past -128 as usual, mine some mese crystals in stone, craft 9 crystals to get a default:mese block. Or, just dig down below -1024 to find whole blocks.
