Simple Mobs, because it is simpler and uses less resources. :)

I prefer simple mobs, just because the mod framework didn't work the last time I tried, and simple mobs seems like the best way to get the old mobs back without speed problems.
In simple mobs though, I think sheep spawning rates too high (my world became sheepland, you know?), and maybe the bad mob ones too low. Oh, and I'd like rats to work the way they used to (you pick them and then can cook them or place them somewhere else) :)
:D

I prefer "friendly" animals over hostile mobs and thus prefer mobf with its much larger collection of said animals. Another factor is that I do find all those functions to handle animals in mobf quite interesting. One day there ought to be "mob" inhabitants which could live in the houses we build for them.

Players who just want to have the mobs around as a challenge might think otherwise. Eventually simple mob will get more complex and mobf has to deal with mobs which require a more simple handling (mobs the player just passes by, mobs the player kills in huge numbers etc.).
A list of my mods can be found here.

DEFINATELY simple mobs, the ai is much stupider with animals and the evil mobs are MUCH more vicious, i like this api a lot better, now take the 3d from sapiers mod and make it work for this and you've got minetest's new unofficial api!
I've been gone for a long time

I've tried Simple Mobs, but could't get it working without an error. After 3 worlds I got close enough to a dirt monster to see how it behaved and then got kicked out. For an agressive mob it seems to work very good.

I agree with Sokomine.

Conclusion for now: I prefer to have both mobs. Simple mobs for the survival part, the animal mod for the interaction other than fighting.

Question: Why choose between them?

I prefer the idea of 3d mobs but the performance is a major thing. Maybe we can take the simple mobs and optical illusion them into a 3d one? Then for animation we would only have to animate the picture if that would be possible im just throwing out random ideas lol.

im going with simple mods...
i installed mobf on my server, and well... the zombies dont do damage, the animals dont die...if you could fix that, i may change my mind :D
Are you saying that I put an abnormal brain into a seven and a half foot long, fifty-four inch wide GORILLA?

I used mobf for a while and it made my server lag a lot so I removed it ( much to my kids disappointment, my middle daughter loves the animals ). I will say only spawning mobs on map generation made the lag better, but being able to build in a lag free world was more important to me than mobs. I like how it's a framework so you can make your own mobs, I played around with that a little bit and it is pretty easy to create new mobs.

I never got simple mobs to work right, I grabbed it early on and it kept making my server crash so I haven't revisited it in a while. I may try it again soon.

I love to have a variety of mobs in my world and use both.
Would neither want to miss the ostrich from Mob Framework, nor the sheep from Simple Mobs.
If I had to choose I'd take Mobf, even though there are a lot of bugs.
But I see no need in choosing.
I disable some mobs from both mods.

Noob 4 life!

Famish includes both of them, although some animals of mobf are removed. For example, vombies do not match the art style.

I have not found big differences in the mob behavior. In what way are simple mobs inferior to mobf?

Mobs has more complex algorithms, so the mobs are "smarter". This increases the server load, though.
Simple Mobs only has very simple and lightweight algorithms to decide what the mobs should do.

It depends; I use a mixture of both.* Mobf is great, because you don't get a bunch of hostile mobs suddenly spawning in your house/cave, but for lightweightness and moddability? Simplemobs. Simplemobs is perfect for spawning hordes of stupid enemies, so it sees a lot of use in forest areas. Mobf has more variety, but simplemobs is easy to fix.

I run modified versions of both on my servers.

Personally? I'll use whatever- although on my newer server folders, I'll install simplemobs first.

But. Neither is quite ready for prime time yet. Breeding is incomplete for mobf (baby animals never age), and simplemobs is just to unpredictable (aaaaaugh, spawning in my house!)

* And they usually tend to lag three releases behind the github versions

I use the sheep and rats from simple mobs; I'd love to see Pilzadam add fish, birds, and perhaps deer to that mod, else I'll have to resort to MOBF get them, which I'm not wont to do (sorry, sapier). :-/

There's already a deer model from Pavel_S intended for mobf. Also it ought to be possible to use mobs from one mod for the other one. I've done so for mobf on my local server. Problem is that mobf expects the model's orientation to be rotated by 90 degrees, so the mobs move sideways.

I like SimpleMobs much better because it doesn't lag as much as the Framework does. I would like to see it fully implemented into 3D though!

After playing using both on my old dual-core PC (which I just buffed with a graphics card), I think mobf is better. More full. Simplemobs is nice when you want a load of dumb enemies, but isn't really much fun as a "game". Still, it'll find a place on my serv

I prefer Mobf, simply because of the fact that it has the 3D mobs. Simple mobs is too simple in my opinion. The reason I don't use Mobf currently is because of the lag that comes with it.

They weren't too great to me.
