Jordach has complained on irc that PilzAdam is slowly making Minetest into Minecraft. I agree. The minetest_classic idea came up (i think Uberi or jojoa1997 made it) shortly after. It would contain the old mese, all the default blocks that were part of 0.3.x and still have modding oppurtunities. But it WOULD NOT CHANGE.

I like the idea of minetest classic because you get the legacy feel to it. Just add in lua mobs that add in all the legacy stuff and you got minetest_classic.

Minetest is supposed to be open source and better one of minecraft. why does it have to change mese when it is making minetest better than minecraft.
I have stopped playing minetest, and may not come back to it again. I would like to thank everyone that made the amazing time I had playing it. I like the feel of the classic minetest, but I also like the user addons/mods available in the newer version. I especially miss the old mapgen. This world seed 1061767796577817577 (v3.1) has at least one mountain peak higher than 100 blocks.
The official project should be something unique. If you wanna do a minecraft ripoff, make a fork.
