Sounds

by jojoa1997 » Post

WHat do you guys/gals think of allowing texturepacks to be able to edit sound. For example if i was making a horror pack i could change the sound of dirt footsteps to being more creepy, or have breaking glass sound like a scream. I just think Minetest could get better texture packs if texture packs can edit the soundfiles like they do with textures.

I think that there should be support for sound packs, and not be combined with texture packs.

It would be nice if there were a way to add sounds without the need of any programming skills or lua file.

On one hand I'd prefer support for sound (only) packs.

On the other hand, if one only wanted to add one or two sounds, it would make sense to add them to a texture pack as a small bonus.

Of course, if there were support for sound packs, one could also make a "(multi) media pack" with instructions where to put textures an where to put sounds.

Yeah but then what do you do when someone wants just their sound pack with their texture pack. How could the two be connected.

I support evergreen's idea. just let the artist provide two archives/folders.

The thing is it can be a hassle when you have multiple sound and texturepack folders. I mean I do support the separation of them but there has to be some way of connecting them automatically. Maybe add a soundpack.text to the texture pack and have whatever name is written in the file be what soundpack is used.

Why? If TP's support sounds and you want just throw a soundpack just put no textures and only sounds in. Then name it "Soundpack ..." and done.

Another "extension" section is IMO not needed and would make it unnecessary complicated...

I was not thinking of adding another section.

sounds as a separate download, or as a different section in MT Forums.

Or just submit it with all the default stuff under minetest games and say that this pack has reworked sounds. :/
