Writable books ?

by jp » Post

Hello.

I had the idea of writable books in game. It will allow :

1. Easy access to reading the rules and others informations in book as part of the initial items of newcomers.

2. Leave long indications for another player which connects at other times of the day, in the case where both players cooperates on a project (for example). The book can be securised by opening for one or several players.

3. Fill a library of short stories, and even sell / buy books. Just for fantasy...

Pages will appears in a simple & light form. As the inventory window in the game, but just for text and button [<<] [>>] to change pages (numbered).

Cheers,
JP

1) How about the wiki mod?
2) memod
3) nice idea, but surely needs some strict filters, so it stays child-friendly

Why? It is up to the person who runs the server. There is not need for filters. Only a entry policy is needed if the mods would ship with stories.

I think it's more about you buy the content of the book rather than the book itself.

Out could be like when you click a book, a box pens up along whether you want to read or edit a book. Of course you could lock a book so other people can't.
Working on a sub-game; mostly based texture packs, adventure and soon chemistry...

you could write each book as a txt (though odt/doc would be better) allowing self publication as a fun little element.

Let's settle this : Markdown? RsT? Basically any "plaintext-compliant" markup language?

It's intended to be the lightest and simplest as possible, so an implementation of a txt file would be the best for this purpose.

merely suggesting a doc/odt format to allow styles and formatting (to create titles)
and will you include support of other fonts

Formatting is not a slight improvement over plain text : it's a whole other world.
