Like they alway say in the open source community, "Make it an option." Actually, I think that's all they say.

...you think 20-100 triangles will strongly hurt performance? No, just no.

Depends on how old/weak the computer is. For mine, yeah, Minetest wouldn't even be playable anymore.

So should we stop making 3D mobs then for the sake of old computers? Or should those who want 3D mobs focus on a fork of Minetest that wants to gear towards newer machines? (legitimate question)

Today's GPUs can render a lot of polys easily. Also, slower computers would handle several hundreds of additional polys just fine.

How old are we talking about is another question I have. When I got my first pc, it was win98 with 126 mb (I think) and 1.2 ghz of cpu... it came with games like MDK, Soldier of Fortune, and Vampire the Masquerade. They ran very well. Minetest runs far better than those games did on the old pc.

I dunno, too many limbs. I honestly don't mind how minecraft form their model. It's kept simplistic.

Anyways, I got a monkey model.

The ability to handle animals and train them would be interesting but restricting to a dog would be lame and extremely too minecraft. Then people would want cats.

Why not
-Dog: Attacks any type of enemies (Ground)
-Turtle: Can grab it to swim faster (Water)
-Eagle: Monitors the area for loot and maybe attack only the smaller enemies (Air)

I don't make my model to a certain scale :\ I guess it will have to be rescaled if they are putting it in the game, but I was thinking it would be almost the height of the player ( like a boss [not the meme])
