Re: +1 button
Storage was never a problem. It's just annoying
Re: +1 button
Actually the things that are annoying are the senseless posts that consume less than 2kb within 1-5 characters; storage is not a problem but i suppose "It's just annoying" when some senseless post takes the space of a post that is more useful and that would apport more ideas and points of view to a topic that is being discussed.rubenwardy wrote:Storage was never a problem. Re: +1 button
Well, bigger, fatter, more "reasonable" post = more bandwidth, right? And I'm hearing complaints that we're wasting C55's "bytes". Are you trying to FORCE me to NOT be clear and concise, and instead write giant walls of text?

I would think that as long as he has a 1TB hard drive, he should be fine. Text doesn't take up that much space :Pazekill_DIABLO wrote:That a serious problem you know, storage for such a big forum...ABJ wrote:we're wasting C55's "bytes". Re: +1 button
Who said short posts, long posts are problem, wasting of memory.
They were probably talking about spam. Am i right?
Spam/BS is problem for them. Tell us, dear high-number-of-posts, what good for is spam? :-P
For wasting memory i guess.
Please, don't ask me what is spam. Go ask uncle google.
I hope you, high-number-of-posts, will solve this spamming madness, not by adding new rules for you,
but simply by thinking twice before posting "xD" / "ikr" etc.

Re: +1 button
No. They said, among some other more understandable things, "+1 posts", "posts that are only 2-3 characters long". This suggests that they
1-either want us to stop talking
2-want us to lengthen our posts, thus actually wasting more of c55's bytes.
I feel that you should see why both are totally unacceptable.

Re: +1 button
Back on topic again, I am against adding a "+1" button. Voting can be done on GitHub, Reddit and Youtube. Forums instead often have a kind of "Thanks" or "Helpful" feature, where users can express that the topic was helpful for them.
With this I'm also saying that content-less posts should be prevented. Instead, bring up your own opinion, suggestion, idea or at least make a sentence for your agreement.

Re: +1 button
Why do you object to +1? What are you trying to do? Save bytes? Considering that we're gonna express the same amount of opinions anyway, is it not better for bytes that we make use of powerful new innovations of human communications such as "+1", ":D", "XD", etc? Why are you denying us the use of this? If topics are gonna get buried down the list of active topics list because someone went on a short post "rampage", they're gonna get buried anyway if that person had gone on a sentence "rampage". Do you realize what you are suggesting? Let me make this easier for you. You are saying this - stop with short posts and save bytes --> write a long post --> (user:long posts take up more bytes) --> if you don't want to create unnecessary walls of text, than stop expressing your bloody opinion. This is, I trust, not the effect you, if you are who I trust you to be, would want to have. Let me give you an example of "spam".

Re: +1 button
I think this is a good argument for a per-post +1. I don't think +1s should be tracked per-user though, meaning that the number of +1s a user has received over all their posts should not be displayed anywhere.ABJ wrote:Why do you object to +1? Re: +1 button
The problem with not having any sort of "I agree" or "I appreciate this" feature is that people will tend to think that no one even noticed their posts, since most of us who liked it are not going to write an essay on why we liked it. I suspect that this will discourage newer posters, who might have a lot to add.
A feedback system could also encourage the finer points of netiquette. Old hands get tired of posting to correct people since you've done it a thousand times already, and it makes you feel like the bad guy. If somebody's post gets marked troll or spam or wall of text, they'll be annoyed, but they might actually get the message.
I don't know if any of this is worth the time it would take to put it together, but it's worth considering.

Re: +1 button
I don't believe we really need a button for that. For example, if you would like to know how good users are rating your topic(mod/subgame/etc), then you may simply start a poll using the nice ascii star :
★★★★★
★★★★
★★★
★★
★
and make it last forever. Then you can also specify something like a entry where constructive critcism may be written in, etc. Polls have many options here.
