New to Minetest. How to get pre-built cities?

Hi,

I am new to minetest. So far this is a great game. love playing around and exploring. My main issue is building and its taking me a really long time to build some great things. i know this is part of the game. i was wondering if ther is an already built world or city that i could add to and explore. i am not talking about a multiplayer but single player on my apple computer. what are the cities called? how do i find them? how do i install them on a mac? are cities and worlds called mods? i realy dont even know really what a mod is. but how do i find pre-built worlds or cities? thanks you guys are awesome and mine on!

Until now, there is no generated cities in Minetest Game, but you can install and use Minetest mod which can adds villages or cities.

You can use villages mod (only flat) or experimental mapgen mod (also with new map generator). You can read this for help with installing mods.

Sokomine suggests using mg over her own mod villages as the results will blend better

Great! i guess i dont know the difference between a mod and a map. i read the wiki page on mods but i still didnt understand what they are. So a map is what i need? and a map has the pre built cities? As for installing mods, the instructions arent the same for a mac.

This is great! so is this what i need? I download a map and then install it somehow into the correct folder and then i could explore the cities? So I am looking for maps not mods. sorry. completely new to this.

A mod will automatically generate buildings on the fly using an algorithm.

A map will contain buildings that were hand constructed by other players.
