[closed] get info from nodes & items [V2] [getmeta]
[closed] get info from nodes & items [V2] [getmeta]
Get info from nodes & items
Version: 2
License: CC0
Depends: none
a part of the mod does not work online
Function 1:
punch a block to output the name & itemname on the console, so you can copy it ~ useful
it makes it easy to get the name from blocks and items, useful eg when using /give, check what mod it comes from...
Useful because you can copy the text from the console
Function 2:
type .meta <something> to print the meta information on the console, and if "something" is a name of a inventory in the block, then will it list everything that is inside it.
New in V2:
Print wielded item on the console when you are punching a block

Re: [CHEAT] get meta from nodes [getmeta]
Is there a possible problem with this mod, in that the kick code could easily be removed and this used to disrupt servers?
If designed for use in singleplayer only, what use is this anyway? and why is it labelled 'cheat'.
Forum rules:
"It is not permissible to promote, link, or otherwise direct Forum users to any kind of "hacking" or "cheating" tools, regardless of their claimed purpose. This includes but is not limited to scripts, bots, modified Minetest clients, CSM mods, third-party programs, etc. Doing so is grounds for an immediate, permanent ban, and may result deletion of all of the user's posts."

Re: [CHEAT] get meta from nodes [getmeta]
This is pretty harmless in that servers can hide meta anway

Re: [CHEAT] get meta from nodes [getmeta]
Some mods or subgames may not have hidden metadata. A cheat mod is not acceptable just because there is a way to protect yourself against one.
Seems like a mod designed to try and get around forum rules, plus it's labelled 'cheat', which suggests a server use.
Note: "... regardless of their claimed purpose."

Re: [CHEAT] get meta from nodes [getmeta]
I'm genuinely wondering here...
What is the issue with accessing metadata?
Like if people can steal things, obviously it's an issue, but how does, say, seeing the contents of a chest effect gameplay? It's just stuff...
Are there nodes I'm not thinking of where accessing the metadata could cause an issue?
It could be questioned as to why one would create a client-side mod as opposed to a mod if it is intended to be used for singleplayer only, however my question is merely asking what possible issues there are with accessing metadata.

Re: [CHEAT] get meta from nodes [getmeta]
1: ok, bad title (changed).
I didnt remember that rule.
for some reason i called it cheat just because jordan4ibanez did it in his post :)
2: I made this mod mostly for testing, and thought it would be usefull for moders
3: what is the difference to this?
viewtopic.php?f=53&t=18521
4: if its so bad, then its better to remove this topic, but note, its useful to find errors in metadata + we dont need to install it on every testworld we are making.
5.5: In V2 i made it a bit more advanced

And complaining about cheat mods instead of fixing the underlying design flaws is "not acceptable" either.paramat wrote:A cheat mod is not acceptable just because there is a way to protect yourself against one.
Re: [closed] get info from nodes & items [V2] [getmeta]
I'm afraid that this discussion will get worse, so i removed the mod.
Edit:
I remade the mod and posted it here: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=18829

Re: [closed] get info from nodes & items [V2] [getmeta]
Well, I just needed this code to debug/verify that meta:mark_as_private() actually functions as implemented, and now this useful mod is no longer present.

EDIT: Might not be the exact copy because it was edited to help moderate a server
