Re: [Linux] Portable Minetest client and server as AppImages
I may be mistaken but I've created a world using the 0.4.16 AppImages and it appears that it has not generated the tin ores... I couldn't find any and it is not registered by Unified_Inventory. Are these AppImages the last 0.4.16-stable Minetest ?
Otherwise it's really handy to have this ;) Thanks !

Re: [Linux] Portable Minetest client and server as AppImages
Any chance of getting 0.5.0dev as an AppImage? I would really like to test 050dev while being able to keep 0416stable for the time being.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Is the download link still working? Loading takes ages (for me) and when loaded the site is full of random characters.

Why aren't you making these anymore? People need them.

Re: [Linux] Portable Minetest client and server as AppImages
Very interessting ... I was looking for a possibilty, to use Minetest on our school Debian-Distribution without installation. An AppImage seems to be a good idea. But we have a 32-bit System :-(
Okay ... I tried to find informations of how to create my own AppImage für 32 bit ... I found possibilities but ... that was not a simple thing.
Does anyone has more knowledge or a (short) description how to create a Minetest 32-bit AppImage!?
Thanks ... Birgit
PS: Is it possible to use Mods with that AppImage?

for mods, sure you can, the way you'd normally do, by installing in the right directory (~/.minetest/mods for linux, under %appdata% somewhere in windows, etc)BirgitLachner wrote: Does anyone has more knowledge or a (short) description how to create a Minetest 32-bit AppImage!?

for making appimages...I guess the simplest would be to create a basic 32bit VM, and follow the regular steps?
appimages sure are nice, but not too easy to make
I know everything, exept what I know...
I have a secret..it's so secret even I don't know what it is

There is no 0.5.0 ... last was 0.4.17.1, and new is 5.0.0 ... they changed the version counting.thomasthespacefox wrote:any possibility of getting a v0.5 appimage soon?

With a lot of effort and a bit of research, I managed to create 32-bit AppImages for both 5.0.1 and 5.1-dev, client and server. You can download them here:
https://github.com/An0n3m0us/Minetest-A ... s/releases
Also, they can be used with mods. I built Minetest using the option to use the $HOME/.minetest/ folder. Just place your mods/games/worlds/texturepacks in there and it should work.

Re: [Linux] Portable Minetest client and server as AppImages
hello Calinou :)
first off, I wanna say thank you for your efforts to make minetest portable.
but I wanted to note an issue preventing the appimage from loading
libidn.so.11 is missing
hopefully this'll be fixed for future users
for me, I'm running Void Linux (latest) and currently don't have internet on the machine I'm running it on
EDIT:
well I managed to get mine working by extracting the appimage, nabbing a spare libidn.so.11 I had in an old Xubuntu 16.04 backup, and throwing it in the squashfs-root/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ folder before running squashfs-root/AppRun from the terminal
NOTE: WARNING: don't expect this ghetto solution to work every time
I only got extremely lucky here, I'm running a linux kernel that's more similar to Ubuntu 19.04 than 16.04
I'm actually surprized I didn't get a segfault, and that everything seems to work perfectly.

Re: [Linux] Portable Minetest client and server as AppImages
I can't seem to find the 0.4.16 appimage anywhere. Google has turned up no useful results, and the original links no longer work.

Re: [Linux] Portable Minetest client and server as AppImages
I have them backed up on IPFS in this thread ;)
@Calinou: yes they are original, you can SHA compare them if you want :)
EDIT: if anyone's afraid of these disappearing, trust me, they won't. ;D
I'm actually using this service strictly because I'm sick of disappearing files.
if the ipfs.io gateway goes down (highly doubt until HTTP disappears), you can simply use another gateway to access them :)

Re: [Linux] Portable Minetest client and server as AppImages
I clicked the link, but the page never loads. I have never heard of ipfs, do I need some sort of special client app to access it?

Re: [Linux] Portable Minetest client and server as AppImages
I really need to get in the habit of testing my newly created share links before posting them >.<
my daemon has been rather slow as of recent, so just give it time, it will eventually work ;)
I did just restart it though to hopefully speed things up :)
IPFS is a new FOSS form of highly secure and decentralized internet
I recommend reading their official docs to learn about it as it's much more than just a cloud, and too much to describe in a single post ;)
though currently it's alpha software, so make sure you're aware of and ready for what can happen before using it >_>
Re: [Linux] Portable Minetest client and server as AppImages
It is not working no matter how long I wait.

Re: [Linux] Portable Minetest client and server as AppImages
yeah my daemon's giving me issues, it's currently not working for me either even though I can access it within it's WebUI
what I'm trying to say though is I don't have to change anything, it will eventually work whenever it decides to work
normally the links are usually active within 5 minutes, but I'm not sure what's causing the slowdown
gotta love alpha software am I right :P
EDIT: and no I don't mean sit there and wait for it to load
if it takes longer than 30 seconds to load, close the tab and try again later, it will eventually be up
EDIT2:
I'll let you know when it's up
it looks like it's gonna be a real D this time around
EDIT3:
ok finally it's up
man if I'd known it'd take this long I would've said gimme a bit, that's a first it ever took this long for me
Re: [Linux] Portable Minetest client and server as AppImages
I was able to download it.
Thanks for all the trouble.
