Re: [Server] HOMETOWN
Edad, there's a small glitch with the hoppers. When I tried to place a hopper on another hopper, the chest next to the bottom hopper was replaced by the hopper I was placing! I think it has to do with the "lip" on the top of the hopper, it's not a full nodebox.

Good thing IMS is holding a candy cane. With that skin it's hard to tell if he's coming or going!

HOMETOWN Winter Build Contest #3! (Final 2017 Contest!)
For our third and final winter contest for 2017, we wanted to learn a little more about our players. For this contest, you will have to do a little reflection and thinking. We have players from all over the world, with different religious beliefs and traditions. Some celebrate a religious holiday, some do not. Some celebrate nature and the changing of the seasons, some just enjoy being with their loved ones.
This is a pretty broad topic, and it's up to you how you want to express yourself. Perhaps you can build a nativity scene, or something to represent spending time with family. Maybe you have a cherished memory of skating on a frozen pond, or cutting down a Christmas tree, or learning how to make latkes. You are only limited by your imagination! Each entry should have a book or sign with a brief description of your build and an intended category designation.
The due date for this final contest is December 22nd. Please submit entries with coordinates via this thread or via my PO Box near spawn. We are most excited about this final contest, and look forward to learning more about our players!

So, for this we have three categories you can choose from:
1. What does the holiday season mean to YOU?
2. What are your traditions?
3. What is your favorite memory?

Announcing the WINNERS of the HOMETOWN Winter Build Contest #2!
We had 21 entries in this contest...21! I thought the first winter contest was difficult to judge, it was nothing compared to this one! We had so many creative interpretations of gingerbread houses - small houses, HUGE houses, detailed houses - it was extremely difficult to narrow down the ones that really stood out because they ALL stood out in their own unique ways! If your gingerbread house did not win, I want you to know we enjoyed exploring your work, and we thank you for participating!
Ultimately, we had to choose three categories based on size - small, medium, and large. Two winners were chosen from each category, with six winners in total. It was very difficult not to choose more than two winners from each category, but the gingerbread houses that won had a little edge over others due to detail, explorability, and aesthetics. Bonus points were also given to the builders who included Jingle the Elf and/or his Swedish fish in their build! The family and I were all smiles when we spotted our family elf with the builds! :D
Here are the winners!
First Category: SMALL
Second Category: MEDIUM
Third Category: LARGE
CONGRATULATIONS to our winners! Prizes will be awarded this evening, left in a protected chest at your build. Winners will receive 500 gold ingots each, and a rare holiday item. All participants will receive the second out of three special holiday costumes, not available for other players on the server. Participate in the third and final contest to collect the third costume to complete the 2017 holiday costume set!
I'd like to give a nod to a few other players who had exceptional builds:
user2 created a beautiful traditional gingerbread house with precise detailing.
Sokomine, Miniminaut, and pangland created gingerbread houses that can only be described as "alternatively creative." These houses were a lot of fun to explore, with signs and stories to go with them.
Well done, everyone! Thank you for the amazing builds, and we hope you are excited about the last contest!

Re: [Server] HOMETOWN
NOW BOARDING! The HOMETOWN North Pole Express!
Get ready for an adventure to the secret place where Santa and his elves are getting ready for Christmas! Simply click on a magical cart at spawn, and you will be whisked away to a frozen world of wonder, where you can explore and discover where the elves live, work, and play! (Make sure your volume is on for the full experience)
You will arrive at the North Pole Grand Station, where you can take a journey by cart, or walk through the station to explore the areas beyond. Santa's elves are there to greet you, give them a lump of gold and they will give you a treat and tell you a joke! Don't forget to get your own special North Pole PO Box inside the station so your friends and HOMETOWN family can easily deliver gifts to you. Tis the season, after all!
There is a lot to see, be sure to bundle up in your warmest pajamas and bring a mug of hot chocolate. If you get too cold, you can always snuggle with one of Santa's reindeer in the warm barn, or find your way to Santa's house where you are always welcome to sit by the fire or stay the night in a cozy bed under a down comforter. (Bring some candy canes for the reindeer and help them get the sugar rush they need to be able to haul Santa's sleigh on Christmas Eve!)
There is so much to see and explore, but be on the lookout for the snow monsters created by AspireMint, Texan, Techy5, and Rocket321...they seem docile for now, but you may not want to get too close! GreenDimond's guardian ice dragon keeps watch over all inhabitants and visitors, but the North Pole is vast and there are many secluded areas. Hide in the elf village if you need to, the elves won't mind!
From our HOMETOWN family to you and yours, we want to wish you the very MERRIEST Christmas and HAPPIEST Holidays! Thank you for being part of our HOMETOWN family!
(With love and gratitude we would like to thank kiko, ynomrah, Lone_Wolf, GoldenHart, Chimney_Swift, IMS_BULLDOGS, TinedStarling, and WhineyTooth for the time and effort they gave for this project, and thank you to micah for keeping it secret! Very special thanks go to darianbrown (teenspirit) who took the lead on this project two months ago and contributed his amazing North Pole Grand Station build and rails, and GreenDimond who contributed builds and designed his fantastic Christmas Decor Mod especially for this project! You are our heroes!)

HOMETOWN Winter Build Contest #3
I want to thank and congratulate ALL the players who submitted an entry for the third and final contest! I deliberately did not want to judge winners for this contest, I just wanted us to be able to enjoy learning a little about each other and different cultures. Also, there was no way to compare the builds because they were all so vastly different. As a result, everyone who entered has received the final costume (HO HO HO!) and 1,000 gold ingots! The prizes have been placed in protected chests near the builds. I also included a book with my comments for each build.
All the builds for this final contest were wonderful in their own ways, and I enjoyed exploring them! ExeterDad and I want to congratulate ALL the players who participated in these three winter contests, we hope you enjoyed the contests as much as we enjoyed seeing your builds!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

I don't know if a host exists that will promise you 100% uptime.BBmine wrote:Do all hosts do this? Or do you have to pay lots more $$$$ to get 24/7/52 hosting?ExeterDad wrote:Seems it's back up. Silly hosting people. Had me worried. The bill isn't due for another week :P
There's different tiers. And all allow for at least some unscheduled downtime.
Here's some text that gives a pretty good rundown. From: https://www.colocationamerica.com/data- ... erview.htm
So yeah... if a 100% uptime host is available, it's likely I won't be able to afford it :PWhat Is a Tier 1 data center?
Tier 1 data center requirements are generally utilized by small businesses and feature:
99.671% Uptime
no redundancy
28.8 Hours of downtime per year.
What Is a Tier 2 Data Center?
The benefits of a Tier 2 facility include:
99.749% Uptime
Partial redundancy in power and cooling
Experience 22 hours of downtime per year
What Is a Tier 3 Data Center?
Tier 3 data center specifications are utilized by larger businesses and feature:
99.982% uptime (Tier 3 uptime)
No more than 1.6 hours of downtime per year
N+1 fault tolerant providing at least 72 hour power outage protection
What Constitutes Tier 4 Data Center Ratings?
tiers of data centers
Tier 4 data center certification typically serve enterprise corporations and provide the following:
99.995% uptime per year (Tier 4 uptime)
2N+1 fully redundant infrastructure (the main difference between tier 3 and tier 4 data centers)
96 hour power outage protection
26.3 minutes of annual downtime.
