Stratum experiment
I got bored quite quickly with ore distribution so I started playing with map generation.
I got some funny screenshot with early stage of development (it more like a proof of concept than any other thing).

Re: Stratum experiment
Huh... that's really cool!
A spoon is basically a tiny bowl with a stick on it

Re: Stratum experiment
Looks very good, and seems to model geological strata quite well. Have you pushed the source somewhere?
Just realize how bored we would be if the world was perfect.

Not yet, but I plan to do it so.Gael de Sailly wrote:Looks very good, and seems to model geological strata quite well. Have you pushed the source somewhere?
The result will be quite different. I want to acheive something like stacked mines of minerals. Not sure to keep that geological aspect at the end.

I would love to see more geology aspect in it.

Have you been able to go further with this?

Re: Stratum experiment
Does this use the new 'stratum' ore type i added to the Ores API?

Re: Stratum experiment
Sorry I did not had time to post a working code (after that orginal post, I worked a bit on it... the result was a total mess).
No it does not uses the stratum type.
I used a stack of 2D noise maps, and divied the space between each map into 10 stratums. In each stratum, a material. That's the concept.
But there are still many things to improve and optimise.

Re: Stratum experiment
How would you make it with stratum, paramat? I still suck at perlin noise. :(

Re: Stratum experiment
It would be done a little like this https://github.com/minetest/minetest_game/pull/2109 but with tuned values.
