I was wondering that minetest actually has this white fog and background colour by default, so I put the screenshots.

Yeah, I usually place six pillars or six statues near the entrance, like on my first big pyramid:

Its probably the best number of pillars to place.

Song of the Open Road

by voxelproof » Post

Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road,
Healthy, free, the world before me,
The long brown path before me leading wherever I choose.

Henceforth I ask not good-fortune, I myself am good-fortune,
Henceforth I whimper no more, postpone no more, need nothing,
Done with indoor complaints, libraries, querulous criticisms,
Strong and content I travel the open road.

Whalt Whitman

Sneak peak of the new Auth Redux database management console.

Image

For this test, I'm querying players with names that end in 3 digits and have joined the server fewer than 5 times.

Even with a database of 522,500 records, the query only took about 3.2 seconds (and this is purely Lua driven, no SQL back-end :)

It is a freakish, built-as-I-go mod I have not released.
At the moment, it is just for personal use but, I may eventually clean it up to release.
I cant wait to experiment with it!
TumeniNodes wrote:I use MTG to build, not for crafting or actual game-play
So do I. :) MT has made me rediscover how much I enjoyed drawing in the past.
I just feel MT is my 3D pencil and the more I use it the more I like it.

Thank you.
I love the circular/table saw and the screwdriver. They just take MT to the next level when you compare it to other voxel games. In my opinion they "simply" transform MT into a drawing tool. I would just like the circular saw were able to cut everything by default: that would allow a new revolution to happen! :D
voxelproof wrote:... and it inspires me to go up with some projects of my own that have been delayed for some time.
Glad to hear that! :D
voxelproof wrote:Very interesting architecture :) However don't forget about details -- they often bring some realistic feel to the whole structure.
Sure! The details will follow.
At the moment I am still creating the main volumes, experimenting with the sloped nodes whose potential I am just starting to understand, embedding the light sources inside the main structures and walls, and placing some Mesecons in strategic places.
Using just one node type/family helps me to better understand / concentrate on the shapes and the volumes I am working on and avoids those details that would otherwise carry me away...

But if that stalls the server for 3.2 seconds, that's likely way too long for most servers. With an sql or sqlite backend, you should have much smaller query times, which would make it a lot more palatable for most server owners.

Maybe allow sauth as an optional backend, so people can choose?

I'm back!

...and also rather glad to see that most of my traffic lights and stuff seem to still be working:
Image

I've also been experimenting with more stuff, like good old discrete mesecons logic:
Image

And also turning vertical movestone into a complete elevator:
Image
Image

Also plenty of traffic engineering stuff, like this new diverging diamond(ish) interchange:
Image

And I'm still just as bad as ever at getting a reasonable amount of lighting on stuff without going overboard :P
