Re: [Server] Must Test
I've added the map on the server's website. I hope the credits are satisfactory!

Yes, of course! But I thought you will rather replace old with new one. Is there a need to keep that deprecated version?GoldFireUn wrote:I've added the map on the server's website. I hope the credits are satisfactory!

Not really, I just thought it would be good to keep the old one for history. But I've hidden it now.

But...but then I'll have to change my password on every MT server out there! :(GoldFireUn wrote:Well, if you don't recall gathering that stuff yourself, you should probably change your password.

Oh I forgot to place on map that there is "changelog" ingame. Your public announcements leters (some of them) are stored on "board" for history lolGoldFireUn wrote:Not really, I just thought it would be good to keep the old one for history. But I've hidden it now.
You spend too much time in the Pickaxe Pub. It's no wonder you do not remember what you did later :DBBmine wrote:Where did all THIS come from??

Re: [Server] Must Test
Busy upgrading server OS (finished), now upgrading map database from postgres 9.5 to 10 or whatever. This part looks like it's going to take awhile.

Heh, I see I have to recompile Minetest, too. At least the database upgrade worked ... I think!

Server is back online! I'll be keeping the old database around as backup in case something turns out not to have gone right. Everything looks good though, so far.

Re: [Server] Must Test
Weekly map generation is re-enabled, after a long period of non-functionality. I had to switch to another mapping program, the stock version was using an inefficient SQL statement that was causing it to run out of memory.

Re: [Server] Must Test
I've added a new page to the server's website, displaying a zoom/pan map.
Link! http://arklegacy.duckdns.org/roaming.html
The (non-stock) mapper program comes from here: https://github.com/adrido/minetest-mapper-cpp The stock version can't handle huge (30+GB) postgres map databases as of this writing.

Hey MustTest maybe you would consider someday having a IRC for your server. Because you do already have the chat log, so maybe one day you could do it. :)

Re: [Server] Must Test
Recently, the largest known group of players to do the nether challenge together crawled their way out of hell and claimed victory in the surface city. The starting players were nhryciw1, Prairiesky, Dresdan, Greybeard, Nakilashiva, StarNinjas, Meechie, and I. Later on GoldFireUn magically appeared and kievski who was also doing a nether challenge happened to only be a few thousand blocks away and dug his way over to us to join our party.
As of writing this I still don't know if Meechie, kievski or StarNinjas actually claimed victory yet, but there is a teleport chain to the city center so it shouldn't be long.
There were a lot of us and only a few supplies to go around at first but after a week or so of tunneling up through 5000 nodes of red rock, making several bases along the way, and GoldFireUn trying to get us all to kill each other, we made it into the stone layer where nhryciw1 found obsidian and began constructing obsidian gates to get closer to the surface. As expected 90% of his total deaths were probably from portal sickness.
We made 4 main bases, the first, of course being at our starting point was named Alpha. After an accident of brimstone ocean flowing down into our tree & bluegrass farm, Dresdan, nhryciw1 and I relocated our base in the cavern above the brimstone ocean islands, which was named Bravo. At this base we recreated our tree and bluegrass farm, and the rest of the group soon moved their supplies and beds up to it.
Afterwards we moved again when we found much needed iron some 200-300 nodes (I think?) above Bravo and made a new base which was named Charlie. Players never stopped digging upwards and it wasn't much later when a small mining base named Delta was built for the shaft makers. A few miles up the same shaft a new base was built which we called Echo. Again, players never stopped digging upward as the stone layer was getting closer and people were eager to leave the red realm and rest their eyes upon some gray rocks!
From Echo, we again took our climbing picks and began tunneling upwards until we reached another nether cavern.
In this cavern we managed to quite literally cobble together a tiny base which was called Temp G1, approximately 1500 meters below the stone layer. After some mishaps Greybeard and I took our picks and flints and began the last vertical tunnel through the nether until we reached the stone layer, where we made a base and named it Tranquility. It was the last, and largest base we built before nhryciw1 began the obsidian gate chain to the surface.
Of course, this is a very brief summary of all that happened on our journey upwards, but I took a lot of screenshots to give people a better idea of what it was like!

Spoiler
Exploring the brimstone ocean islands directly above Alpha base, looking for nether swine and dauth sand, right after we began our challenge:
The entrance to Bravo Base, built the second day of the nether challenge:
The upper cavern, near Bravo base.. I think?
Charlie base:
Charlie base bunker room, built by Nakilashiva and I:
Dresdan having a bed glitch:
Exploring the cavern outside of Charlie base with nhryciw1:
The first Dungeon Masters discovered! (they killed nhryciw1)
A lava spill flowing down a ledge. I first noticed it when I was directly underneath it, it was a bit scary looking up and seeing lava coming down on you!
DM Hunting with GoldFireUn, Dresdan, and nhryciw1. DM's gave valuable resources that were either very hard to find, or in the case of diamonds, impossible to find in the nether. These Dungeon Masters provided the much required climbing picks that were used to tunnel upwards.
An interesting find:
A nice view of the cavern outside of charlie base:
Groups of nether swine. They soon became bags after taking this picture:
The salt farm that I built in charlie base. Prairiesky tended to it:
More Hunting:
Tunneling up from Echo base:
I helped dig the shaft upwards with Nakilashiva and Dresdan, but eventually we ran out of supplies and were forced to make a temporary base in a skeleton and DM infested cavern. To make matters even worse a lava spill came over a ledge and flooded our shaft, nearly killing everybody and trapping Greybeard and Prairiesky in it, whom were both on their way up to give the tunnelers fresh supplies.
The lava spill that came down the ledge at Temp G1. Unfortunately, despite the wall our shaft still became flooded:
An angry DM outside of Temp G1:
GoldFireUn killing the angry DM:
Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures of Echo base, but here is my inventory as I move to it:
My diamond armor, completely crafted from dungeon master diamonds:
A climbing pick being repaired, also crafted from dungeon master diamonds:
-25090, almost out of the nether!
A few minutes later, we enter into a cave realm. The floor is nether rack, but the ceiling looks different!
The first diamonds and mithril, found naturally in stone! It was very refreshing to see these:
Early construction of Tranquility base:
Greybeard was finding plenty of mithril. He already had a full set of armor shortly after we arrived in the stone layer:
The Bedroom Protector. It was tedious adding everyone...
The first nyan cat found in a large cavern above Tranquility base!
Another nyan cat in the same cave! This was the start of building rainbow transports and no longer having to climb several thousand meters of ladder and shaft to transport supplies. I am sure everyone knows how grueling that was:
A completely lit up cavern:
Dungeon Master hunting is over, nyan cat hunting is now the new rage:
Tranquility base bunker, with everyone moved in:
I visited the nether again, probably to build a transport or a salt farm since they didn't grow in the stone layer. kievski apparently ran into trouble attempting to reach us:
Another nether visit. The Dungeon Masters were happy to see me:
The first Cave Realm!
Tranquility base farm. It is probably more expensive then most people's farms on the surface, due to the high amount of materials used to make it work underground:
Tranquility base transports:
Tranquility base bluegrass farm:
A relaxing room in the base. It was the only room with no use:
Nyan cat hunting again!
I found another one, and ran out of cobble to bridge to it. I only had nyan cats:
I found a third nyan cat in the same area:
Then I found a fourth, and a fifth:
Then a sixth:
All in all, I believe I found seven nyan cats in the same part of a cave realm.
WE REACHED THE SURFACE!
nhryciw1 had made it to the surface with obsidian gates. Greybeard and I made the rainbow transports all the way up to the surface next to his gates so that others could follow:
Transporting to the city on Feral's teleport chain!
Dresdan and I attempting to blow each other up:
And there we made it! It was very lucky that I claimed victory as soon as I reached the central square, as Dresdan shot an arrow at me 30 seconds after I did while I was cloaked. I died and went all the way back to Tranquility base where my bed was set. It wasn't so bad though as I had to go back anyway and get all my goodies I left behind.

Re: [Server] Must Test
I wrote yall a poem
(read to the tune of "Jesus loves me this I know")
Happy holydays everyone :D
(read to the tune of "Jesus loves me this I know")
Code: Select all
Iceland natives ate my face
kicked my butt and trashed my place
took my stuff and left me dead
curse and thrash it's all in vain
Now I'm cold and bare and wet
walking home without a sled
hungry thristy one heart left
howling sounds won't let me rest
Walk all day and hide at night
make a pick with stone and grass
slowly get back on my feet
I will not accept defeat
I will fight with teeth and claw
build pillboxes till I'm home
natives, monsters all be damned,
cut them all and make them dead
Then the howling gets real loud
giant wolf approaches now
dig dig dig a hole below
In the caves the fear takes hold
Now in darkness I hide from
all the beasts that lurk above
but there's monsters here too
no way out I'm trapped once more
All my strength will soon run out
No food no pick no way out
among stone in ice encased
this is how my journey
ends

Re: [Server] Must Test
I just wanted to wish Goldfire, DVD, Naki, Meechie, Prairiesky, and Treeman a wonderful 2021. I hope the new year finds you happy and in good health!
I should be able to log in very soon, probably next week. I think I've finally resolved the Windows networking issue that was preventing me from connecting to the server.
