[mod] Tomb Stones [tombs]

by Nathan.S » Post

Image
If you've ever wanted to honor a fallen friend, or just create a neat cemetery this is the mod for you. There are only two craft recipes, one for the tombstone creator, and one for the chisel. All of the stones are made in the machine with a bones node or tool and the material of your choice.
The chisel can be crafted with a steel ingot and tin ingot placed diagonally of each other in the crafting grid. I also added support for the mychisel:chisel so If you are using that mod you can use the chisel that it provides.
Image
Supported mods include:
Bakedclay
Caverealms
Darkage
Default
Ethereal
Geominer
Maple
Moreores
Moretrees
Wool

There are fifteen different stone shapes, all of which are available as centered or offset versions.
The shapes are:
- Rectangle
- Cross
- Pointed
- Short Slanted
- Short Flat
- Fancy Cross
- Staggered
- Celtic Cross
- Obelisk
- Stacked
- Rounded
- Sam
- 5 Pointed Star
- 6 Pointed Star
- Octothorp (Pound Sign)
Image

By default the stones will not be displayed in creative inventory, but that can easily be changed in the settings. You can also toggle on and off support for other mods. By default if a mod is enabled this mod will support it.

You could easily take some code from steles and integrate with Display Modpack (actually Display API and Font API) to display some text on the tombs.

I may try that in the future. Some of the stones wouldn't really have space for much text though.

If I have some time I can give a try also. I like the shape of your tombs and the recipe with the bones. Would be fun to have the name engraved :)

What a (slightly sad but) beautiful mod. Perfect for building the exterior of churches.

What about an obelisk, or one of these piles of stones stacked on top of each other?
Also, as you already have crosses, maybe some symbols from other religions.

nice looking mod an almost perfect complement to the church mod
I'd probably use it to memorialise all the stupid ways I've died in game

I don't know how well a pile of stones stacked on top of each other could be made out of all the different materials the mod supports, or how I'd texture it, but I'll give it a stab. I'll add the obelisk as well. I was thinking about maybe doing some fancier stones as well, but they have to work with just a single texture, which makes things a tad more difficult.

Just updated the mod, four new stone shapes, including Oblesk, Cletic Cross, Stacked Stones, and a Staggered design. I'm not sure how I feel about the stacked stones, might try and change that up some as right now it doesn't look the greatest.

Just a little update. Optional support for bakedclay and caverealms. By default they will be loaded if the mods are loaded, but you can disable them in the mods settings. I also added a bit to the registration API so the tombstones can glow, something that I felt was important after adding the glowing crystals from Caverealms.

Seeing as you need ideas for tombstones, how about one like on the top row, third column but with a more rounded top, more like a half circle? You could also have a tombstone that is shaped like a miniature version of Sam ;-P

Edit: Are the tombstones meant to be in the creative inventory? There's a lot of them, so it's kind of obtrusive.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try and add an option to toggle whether the stones should show in creative or not. It does add several pages of nodes if you have only a few supported mods enabled.

Nice one! So when you hover over the node, it also shows customizable infotext message on-screen describing who died and when?

The infotext message is entirely optional and user defined. It doesn't say anything about who the bones were from, or the cause of death. You can manually add that of course.
There is a small bug currently with the infotext, in that if you close the formspec with Esc it erases the text, trying to get a fix for that.

Cool beans, I'll have to play around with this mod. I've been wanting a way to memorialize players, so this would be a great fit for my server :)

I think Esc sends fields.quit or fields.exit
Nice mod btw

For the formspec problem, you could try the same formspec as signs do, which is found here: https://github.com/minetest/minetest_ga ... 2497-L2515

Since it uses only a label element and no size or anything else, it automatically makes the formspec the sign formspec. It doesn't lose text on escape.

If you want to go nuts with inclusivity, here's a page with a list of all the various religious symbols available for US military grave markers. Making all of these options would probably be a bit much but some of the more populous ones might be useful.

I'm going to try and make the infotext only editable by the person that placed the marker, and of course will be fixing the esc key erasing the text problem as well.

I will look at that list FaceDeer and fill the last few designs that I need to get the fifteen different shapes that I want to achieve.

Edit:
I added two new stone shapes, have not yet updated pictures in first post, but added a SAM stone and one with more of a rounded top. The infotext can now only be changed by the person that placed the stone. This unfortunately isn't retroactive, so if you've placed any stones you'll have to dig them and replace them to be able to put any text on them. If they already have text they should be just fine.

I like the Sam grave a lot. Also, entering text is more intuitive and better now. Good job!
