Minetest 5.0.0 feature freeze !
Hello community members, modders and players !
We are glad to announce that we ended the feature dev cycle for Minetest 5.0.0. Latest validated features will merged today or tomorrow. No new feature PR will be merged until 5.0.0 release.
Minetest feature freeze will start on 6th January at 23h59 UTC.
When the feature freeze will start no already in dev progress feature will be merged. We will polish minetest stability & do only bugfix, translations & documentation.
We expect a Minetest release on the 2nd or 3rd Februrary if the Github milestone is cleared.
Milestone link: https://github.com/minetest/minetest/milestone/9
Thanks for your patience for this very late but awaited release.
Minetest 5.0.0 changelog is there: https://dev.minetest.net/Changelog (it's not complete but will be updated)
You can find test builds on Gitlab (Windows & Linux .deb only): https://gitlab.com/minetest/minetest/pipelines. You should choose the more recent pipelines based on master commits.

Re: Minetest 5.0.0 feature freeze !
This is great news! Minetest 5.0 is nearly out! So, does this apply to Minetest Game as well?

This is either bad English or wrong, if a blocker for 5.0.0 is a feature it will continue to be worked on and merged. Content database needs some work and to complete it may require some new features.
The phrase 'feature freeze' means 'no merging of features that are not essential for release'.
The link to the blockers for 5.0.0 is https://github.com/minetest/minetest/projects/4 not the milestones. The milestones are things to consider before release but are not necessarily blockers.
The release date depends on when we clear the blockers, hopefully we can clear them in 2 weeks giving us another 2 weeks of testing their code. So the release date is an aim not an expectation.

paramat: no bad translation here. Milestone and project are both useful to track. Project is a global roadmap where you put issues. Milestones are steps to achieve.

Re: Minetest 5.0.0 feature freeze !
OK, I almost completed the German translation today, but I'm stuck at 6 strings from the advanced settings which I fail to translate so far:
I also posted PR to fix some translation/typo issues:
https://github.com/minetest/minetest/pull/8062
Center of light curve mid-boost.
Light curve mid boost
Light curve mid boost center
Light curve mid boost spread
Spread of light curve mid-boost.
Standard deviation of the mid-boost gaussian.
WTF is “mid-boost”?Strength of light curve mid-boost.

Re: Minetest 5.0.0 feature freeze !
Quick research shows that the term is actually used for music amplifiers and electronic guitars and is used to raise/amplify the Mittenanteil (midrange) of the sound frequency.Wuzzy wrote:WTF is “mid-boost”?
Here’s a video of what it does: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20iGo67PJ8c
But there seems no proper translation that is not a description of what it does. But Midboost as a term seems to be used in German publications as well.
This is what I imagine:
„Verstärkung der Mitten“ or „Mittenverstärkung“ maybe?

I went with “Mittenverstärkung”. Translators: On Weblate, there will be another translation update in the next days. Stay tuned!

Re: Minetest 5.0.0 feature freeze !
erm, well if you could answer how many mods exist and give a lot of time to a dedicatet team of testers maybe there just might be a possible answer.piecubed wrote:How many mods will this break?
maybe simply list the mods important to you and ask for people to test and post results, might work best if you volanteer with a head start of some testing ...

Re: Minetest 5.0.0 feature freeze !
Perhaps the possible german translation *and* the orginal english text ought to be shown in such a case. It is more likely to find explanations about what the setting actually means when searching for the english term than for a german version that doesn't have much meaning.Wuzzy wrote: I went with “Mittenverstärkung”. Re: Minetest 5.0.0 feature freeze !
Probably some bigger mods will be always maintained. You can always just look at compatibility breaking list and read every mod's code to see if it will be broken, that's literally what you're askingpiecubed wrote:Like, tubelib, pipeworks, technic, digtron, ethereal... farlands subgame
I don't have anything important to say.

Re: Minetest 5.0.0 feature freeze !
Mods should not break API is quite stable. Look at the changelog to see what API changes are included

Re: Minetest 5.0.0 feature freeze !
Good day.
I see an update weblate->githab "Cleanup translation files", however, some of the new/modified keys from minetest.pot still didn't fall on weblate.
Is it possible to update weblate at least a couple of days before the release (so that the translators have time to make edits), and then again weblate->githab immediately before the release?
Please. If it isn't difficult.
(it would be desirable would to release a correct translation, not an intermediate one)

It's always been available as an unstable build.runs wrote:Tomorrow will be available!!!
Stable release tomorrow? Not likely. There are still 7 items left on the roadmap, at least 2 of which are probably non-trivial.
