[Clientmod] Where is that? [wit]

by DS-minetest » Post

Where is that?

Get the position of a thing by looking to it from two places.

Usage:
  • Do .wit A at one point looking to a thing.
  • Do .wit B at another point looking to the same thing.
  • Do .wit S to see the position of the thing.

I mean F5. I'm used to MC controls.

This csm also doesn't enable debug info…

Silly mod. What you need instead is just point and click system with display of distance and coordinates.

It's absolutely silly, but I love it. All it does is find the intersection of your facing directions, and that works for literally everything. You can use it to find the position of a structure you see on the other side of a glass wall. You can use it to find the position of a mob off on an island in the distance (if you're fast enough to catch it standing still). You can even use it to get a rough estimate of how far away that player nametag you see on the horizon actually is, if you pick a glyph to focus on and move far enough when recording A and B.

There was an update. Now the mod should work with 5.0. Also it probably is more precise.

And I've made a demonstration video (bad quality):
wit.m4v.zip
demonstration video for the wit csm (recorded with kazam, compressed with handbrake and zipped)
(768.1 KiB) Downloaded 115 times
Maybe some day I'll make it possible for two players to get the wit pos together (by sending the pos, the look dir and a comment about what to look to via modchannels).
