I can't toggle any setting in the advanced settings in this version. Tried on a Motorola G5.

Even connected an external mouse and keyboard, but no luck. With some trying I can expand the + signs, but clicking on an individual setting doesn't do anything.

After you select the setting you then need to click the Edit button.

Ah, that does the trick. It's very counter-intuitive though. You'd expect a tap, or maybe long-press, to make it go into edit mode.

Also it's extremely hard to hit the + signs with a finger on the touch screen (on an average size phone). I have to click *left* of the plus sign or exactly on it, to make it open. It would be more logical if clicking on the text would expand it as well.

So some usability tweaking seems in order :-) though it's probably more of an irrlicht problem than a minetest problem.

Still it works very nicely on my moto G5.

the 3D graphics modes don't all work though. I wanted to try side-by-side mode in my el-cheapo cardboard-vr but no dice.
-Anaglyph 3d works as expected.
-Interlaced 3d leaves the top half of the screen greyish and draws a squashed image in the bottom half.
-Top-bottom mode creates a black screen, except for the topmost line of pixels, which is white.
-Side-by-side mode creates a black screen, except for the leftmost line of pixels, which looks like it *does* get rendered to. If I sweep on the screen it looks like a single column of pixels is rendered correctly 0in the leftmost position.

Build updated to: 3fce27e
wziard wrote: the 3D graphics modes don't all work though. I wanted to try side-by-side mode in my el-cheapo cardboard-vr but no dice
There is an open issue for this and it is something I intend to look into when I get time. Cardboard-vr is something I would like to get working now that I have a suitable phone, though it is unlikely to be done before MT 5.0.0 (unless someone else fixes it)

Thank you everyone for your feedback, please remember to report any non-installation related problems on the Minetest github issue tracker as they are unlikely to get much attention from the developers here.

My.Solution

Code: Select all

*20190206*
I believe I have three main difficulties.

1st is _5.0.dev.apk_ Inventory now about 84 pages max vs 250 before on _0.4.16.17.apk_.
2nd is _nondefault_terrain-generation mods_ which _crash_ _5.0.dev.apk_.
3rd is _entities_, which appear to burden _server_.
I'm moving to post#18.
This question was in regards to _hosting_ via _5.0.dev.apk_
and should be a comparison of _PC_ to _Mobil_ _hosting_.

my.observation

Code: Select all

I believe it is safe to say the _5.0.dev_ has improved more than it has broken.
Regardless, following are negative results from testing.

The strange disappearance of _player_ Professor Googenburger.
Googenburger was vacationing at Brainiac Mansion in my _MTworld_ while testing update _5.0 dev_.
The tablet _client_ _crashed_.
When I now re-_connect_ Googenburger, _player_ _Steve_ cannot see _Googenburger__, but Googenburger can see _Steve_.
Googenburger is _invisible_ (out-of-body situation except he doesn't see himself).
I did later bring Googenburger back to _uninvisible_ by granting him _fly_mode_ or perhaps he coincidentally arrived just prior to _privelage_,
I'm not exactly sure.

_Bug_ with Handle_schematics_mod.
_Formspec_ stuck _open_ when attempt to _close_.

_Bug_ with _Journal_mod_. _Formspec_ stuck _open_ when attempt to _close_.
_Bug_ with _schemlib_mod_. Chest _node_ is _unkn-own-node_.
When I _host_ with reduced _user_mods_, I get _error_

<_a serialization error occurred:Malformed Inventory list...read 625 of 6425 itemstacks.
Server is probably running a different...._>

I am able to _host_ _mtworld_ and _client_ _mobil_ _.apk_ after I _remove_ _user_mods_,
OR _REMOVE_ _SFINV_mod,
OR add _nondefault_SMART_INVENTORY_mod_.

Occasional _bug_ with _shadow_ on _Steve_. _Steve_ stays _shadow_ after transition from dark to light environment.
_Steve_ stays _shadow_ after transition from dark to light environment.

Infrequent _bug_ with fly_mode NOT on when returning to _mtworld_ after _crash_.
_Steve_ falls to death.
I haven't seen this lately, however.
Perhaps _Creatures_mod related?

New _LAN_ related _bug_.
I have not changed my _LAN_ since _0.4.16.17.ver_.
I have _intermittent_ crash of _steve_ when not in-active.
The _bug_ isn't just the _crash_, but at re-_connect_, I get message.
<_An error occurred, Connection timed out._>.
This is _problem_ shared by _player_ Professor Googenburger, but when he finally got back in, he is _invisible_.
To reconnect to _server_ I _ reset_ _client_ _WiFi_, sometimes also _client_ restart.
Although this _appears_ this as a _LAN_ _bug_, I used same _LAN_ used for _0.4.16.17.rev_.
The _bug_ has _approximately_ a 1in five _probability_ over a six hour period.
Not frequent, but not rare either.

Typing _chat_ too fast in _worldedit_mod_ within _inventory_ does _crash_ more frequent than _0.4.16.17.apk_

While _testing_ <_inventory_mods_> I received the infamous
<_a serialization error occurred:malformed inventory list_>.
This created a secondary problem which prevented me from reconnecting.
After <_Done!_> I see
<_An error occurred:Connection timed out_>.
Spent two hours _disable_ firewall, _connect_ other _clients_ , _reset_ _server_, _reset_ _router_ , and _reset_ client_ that received _error_.
Upon _intermittent_ _error_ after <_Done!_>, I re- _install_ _5.0.dev.apk_.
This appears to _fix_ _error_. Seems _probable_
 <_An error occurred:Connection timed out_>
relates to the Professor Googenburger out-of-body _glitch_ I experienced.

Sorry, I have no idea what might be wrong there. I would personally recommend that you install the necessary components using android studio. This is not really needed but it will set up the environment correctly for you if you're not sure where things should go. The build information in the dev wiki is still mostly accurate except you must replace ndk-r16b with ndk-r17c

Note: If you do install android studio then it will include the latest ndk by default. You need to dowload ndk-r17c, separately, from the archives and point the MT build script to that.
