Important legal info about Minetest Game TNT mod sounds
We recently noticed that the sounds in the Minetest game TNT mod did not have any credits or license information.
Tracing the sources of the sounds we discovered that 2 of the sounds came from a proprietary source (which i will not disclose, and i think is best not disclosed here) so cannot be used.
The 3rd sound also cannot be used due to having no credit or license.
These sounds have been removed from the Minetest Game TNT mod.
If anyone is using these sounds in a mod, they should replace them immediately.

Good thing this was noticed. So, were the sounds replaced with something else?

Lol. We basically all know which source it is. :PTracing the sources of the sounds we discovered that 2 of the sounds came from a proprietary source (which i will not disclose, and i think is best not disclosed here) so cannot be used.
By the way, the fuse sound is likely a derivate work of https://freesound.org/people/Ned%20Bouh ... unds/8320/
It sounds very very similar. And it long predates the Source That Should Not Be Named. It's seems the Source That Should Not Be Named has altered the sound a bit.
It's an open secret that the Source That Should Not Be Named has used freesound.org extensively. They often altered the sounds a bit to fit their needs.
So, we could re-do the fuse sound by doing our own derivate work from the CC0 sound above. Then we're safe AND have a good fuse sound. But it's UNSAFE to directly copy the sound from the Source That Should Not Be Named.
I was unable to find the source of the explosion sound on the Internet. Maybe they used another sound library that we don't know. Whatever. But in the Internet you'll probably find a billion explosion sounds.

Re: Important legal info about Minetest Game TNT mod sounds
I just replaced the files in MineClone 2.
Here's the folder of mcl_tnt:
https://repo.or.cz/MineClone/MineClone2 ... MS/mcl_tnt
Documentation is given in readme file. tnt_ignite.ogg is my own derivate work. tnt_explode.ogg was found in a public domain sound collection.

I don't use -dev on my servers, they are all at v5.0.1.
Is it safe to just replace the v5.0.1 OGG files with the ones here?

Yes, these are the new sounds.redblade7 wrote:Is it safe to just replace the v5.0.1 OGG files with the ones here?

Be sure to add the licenses as well from https://github.com/minetest/minetest_ga ... ME.txt#L29 to line 43
and then
https://github.com/minetest/minetest_ga ... se.txt#L71 to line 99
Using copy/paste is the easiest way to add in the license bits

Re: Important legal info about Minetest Game TNT mod sounds
The TNT sounds have been existed already a long ago and I think it's very doubting somebody knowing these sounds are from the proprietary source will find out they are in MTG, because there is enough a little communuty itself in the MT...

Re: Important legal info about Minetest Game TNT mod sounds
Are you going to release a minetest_game v5.0.2 or are we close enough to the release of v5.1.0?
