Re: Post your screenshots!
At last, my long journey nears it's beginning. The Mausoleum lies in the near distance, as foretold, south of the Temple. I shall take rest in the village for the even...and begin the descent before the sun rear's it's head again.
Having prepared for this moment my whole life, I now enter the Mausoleum of Pe'Ak. Who knows what lies in the depths of Geomoria below? My body, nay, my soul aches with the darkness that I know will consume my every being. May I last the night....
And now, vessels.... cause modding is sooo addictive..... and maybe even a lil more fun than actually playing......
Nah, who am I kidding? It's why I mod in the first place!

Re: Post your screenshots!
Is that a quest you speak of, similar to one from an RPG? And are those vessels your potions?ShadMOrdre wrote:At last, my long journey nears it's beginning. Re: Post your screenshots!
The "quest" was simply to provide some other screenshot content than my usual landscapes and maps.
The vessels are not potions. The are a modified vessels/florbs. Florbs come from Fluid_lib, but those were just a ball. The vessels mod seemed to have no real useful purpose, other than as crafting items, so I thought I'd infuse them with usable functionality.
A cup you can drink from. A lava-tov cocktail. Beer, cause who doesn't like beer. Coffee, if I can find a fluid texture for it. And all the molten metals from Melterns. Cause who doesn't want more liquids?
An RPG is one of the goals, but the mods providing the content you see me posting in the screenshots is mostly lib_materials, lib_ecology, and some other custom mods that are not yet ready for prime time.
In the meantime, enjoy this other screenshot, cause, well, I gotta post something......

Re: Lava Intrusion
It's pretty, but it's kind of boring, and it suffers from (at least) two serious design flaws. The only way it knows how to connect rooms is by storing them in a table -- over 700 per chunk generated. All of the data stays in memory, until you shut the server down (or the out-of-memory killer does it for you). At that point it's lost everything, and the new rooms won't connect to the old.texmex wrote:I see that roomgen piqued your interest :)
It also uses the minetest place_schematic function, which ignores param2 values, so the pretty treasure room's steel bars don't rotate to match the wall they're in. Forget about placing stairs. (This might be fixed already -- I'm still using minetest stable -- but it's been broken for a long time.)
You could probably use noise to generate the map. It might not use the space as efficiently, but it would be repeatable, and you wouldn't need to store anything in memory.

This is one level of a quick and dirty maze generated with a random 3D noise I was using for terrain and very basic schematics with the appropriate number of exits. As you can see, there are a number of unconnected loops, though fewer than I expected. Maybe tweaking the noise would help. Adding up and down exits would probably help a bit.
