Lua mapgen using recursive Voronoi cells to generate terrain. Cell data available for use by other mods.
5-6ms chunk generation time. Is that acceptible?
Coming soon...

Gorgeous. This somewhat quirky texture pack adds that unearthly touch to the world's atmosphere.

No wonder I liked it. : )

On my system that would be incredible. On yours? /shrugShadMOrdre wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 18:18

Glad to see you are still modding awesome things! I was getting worried based on repo activity, are you no longer using github?

I'm not doing anything with minetest, I've just got loads of old screenshots I never posted. I've been playing with love2d lately. I still lurk on occasion, though. : )FreeLikeGNU wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 18:18Glad to see you are still modding awesome things! Re: Post your screenshots!
duane,
Since love2d has your attention, perhaps I could persuade you to peek at lib_mg_continental. I found the love2d code on github, hoping to use its Voronoi code.
I instead coded the above project. It creates a 3 layered recursive 2D set of random positions. Distances from these points are calculated at on_gen, thus creating the Voronoi diagram. The layered voronoi cells are treated in this way; the largest cells act as continental plates. The 2nd layer acts as continental cratons. The third layer acts as local terrain. When the 3 distances are added together and subtracted from a base_maximum_height, a "noisy" terrain heightmap is generated. The added bonus, and one where I could use some input, is in realizing that the 3rd layer cell edges are already identified, but that they can be used to create realistic, downhill flowing rivers. The line of greatest slope, while hard to calculate, is easy to spot, and because only the above 3 distances determine the height, I can only think that calculating the line of greatest slope is easier than thought. This is at least a huge part of the motivation in choosing a 3 layered voronoi diagram. Rivers should become self-evident, even in code.
And, everything scales well, so a world map is easily produced.

Fireflies!
By the way, opening a chest with a firefly in your hand releases the firefly! This is somewhat reasonable, as bugs can be tricky to hold in your hand. :) But, it seems to me to be unexpected behavior, and opening the chest normally should be considered.
I'd captured the bug during the day, and accidentally placed it above the chest and thought it'd disappeared! I was much relieved when the nighttime came and I discovered my friend had returned.

At first, I thought they had pine trees on their heads. ; p
So far, I haven't been able to get the continental/materials to work on my system, which may be a problem with my system since I haven't started minetest in three upgrades.ShadMOrdre wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 00:43Since love2d has your attention, perhaps I could persuade you to peek at lib_mg_continental.

Re: Post your screenshots!
I`ve made a dummy player, so it is created automatically when a real player has gone into a vehicle and his hands have become visible:
Unfortunately, it is impossible to force a real player to be invisible in third-person view if he is attached to entity. Hence the following screenshot is not very good-looking:
