Server crashed
Server crashed
Hello,
We use a very effective Ikoula server with the latest versions of Linux Ubuntu and Minetest. The server systematicaly crashed when more than 17 players are coming in the world. We have no mods. All is vanilla. Do you have an idea ? Maybe it is a known issue ? Thanks very much and take care.
Philippe

Re: Server crashed
Greetings,
As a first guess, I would suspect a ressource issue, maybe your server is simply running out of RAM? To investigate, I would monitor the server's ressources in a ssh terminal with "top", which will show you CPU and RAM usage.
Also, can you please be more specific about "very effective", is it a dedicated server or a VPS (and if yes, how many cores, RAM etc. it has assigned)? And is the whole server crashing or only the minetest server process?
Best regards,
Uwe

Thanks very much for your answer!
This is a dedicated server Agile XL Pro v2 - i9 9900K 64Go.
We checked the RAM and Minetest uses only 2GO.
And only the Minetest server crashed.
Regards.

Re: Server crashed
You should take a look at the minetest logs and search for the ERROR keyword, it will help you know if the problem is from minetest itself. Normally the logs are in /var/log/minetest
If you have only terminal access you can read them with the 'less' command

Thanks for your answers.
There is nothing at all in the Minetest and Linux logs.
We don't know how to increase cache RAM in Linux. And we didn't find the use of RAM in Minetest.conf (https://wiki.minetest.net/Minetest.conf/fr). We are looking for...

Re: Server crashed
We just did a test. Indeed, all the clients are ejected but the Minetest server didn't really crash. We must shut down it before launch again. After, the clients ca come back.
Re: Server crashed
A colleague launched a unittest this morning. We had these issues :
Code: Select all
[FAIL] testCreation - 0ms
[FAIL] testGetMods - 0ms
[FAIL] testGetModspec - 1ms
[FAIL] testGetModNames - 0ms
[FAIL] testGetModMediaPaths - 0ms
Unit Test Results: FAILED

Bonjourno
What version of Minetest are you using?
Could be networking bugs that were fixed in a recent patch?
Lol i9 64GB of RAM. I don't think it's related to that unless your RAM is bad.

Hello,
We used the 5.3 version. But the same issue appeared with the earlier version. It’s the same with Ubuntu versions.

Re: Server crashed
Looks like you have permission issues or something related, are you using a custom map directory or the default ?Gamixlab wrote: ↑Tue Nov 17, 2020 09:36A colleague launched a unittest this morning. We had these issues :

Re: Server crashed
I don't know if you've solved it in the meantime, but as Minix mentioned, you should check the log file of the server.
Without the log file properly troubleshooting this is not possible.
Depending on how you installed Minetest they will be in /var/log/minetest or a file named debug.txt in the folder Minetest is installed in.
