I just learned that people with cheating clients can break things instantly and fly through walls. It seemed to me that me being a person without such abilities, I may not have much purpose to be on that sort of server where those sort of abilities are possible and may even be common. I was trying to make a building that would be sort of resistant to being destroyed, but if people can just break things so easily and stuff then I don't think what I was thinking may be a thing, so I guess I may not see a reason to play on there at the moment. Sorry. Not sure what to say. Alrighty then.

You are right, cheat clients give several advantages to players that use them, there are still many materials which are very hard to destroy like obsidian, slade and some others. But if you want to build something in peace you can just walk 1000 nodes out of the spawn region. Ultimately, yes, things are bound to be destroyed and this kind of server is not meant for everyone.

My idea was to try to make a building out of stone that was very big and maybe make multiples of them that could be played with by people who may play there and it be harder to destroy them, or at least take a while, because it was large and made of stone, but if a person can just move through walls and break the stone instantly then it is like it isn't even there. Very well, I guess. Is what it is.

I don't want to play in the way of "Having a 'base' somewhere far away where nobody is", because I don't see the point in that. I want to play a game where there are multiple players, and if I am so far away from other people that they have no influence on things I am doing, then why wouldn't I just play singleplayer?

stone is wrong then ... there are several stronger nodes / elements you should have realized, IF they on the server: obsidian, even stoneblock is better, or compressed cobble even.

Go mining for a day (10.000 nodes) down and you will know which are more difficult to take ... Granite ? also

there is loads of stone around the area from lava casting... I wanted it to be easy enough if a player wanted to alter the building in some way...

I have finally cleared the water cube grief that was near spawn. That was so huge, it took me about 3 weeks, with a bit of help from others. The sponges really helped, Minix, so thanks for adding them!

I'm going to learn how to use the quarry technic, MooseMan gave me the set for that, and I'll be able to make better progress on the chernobylite that is so prevalent on one side of spawn.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: some of you may have noticed that my FreedomTest server has been inaccessible for about 2 weeks at the time of writing this post. The reason for this being that my ISP's local network suffered a major failure and (allegedly) they have been working to fix it. This is the first time in years that they take so long to solve this kind of issue and I am not sure how long this is going to last.

For the time being all of my services will be down, this includes FreedomTest MT server, Minetest32 server and FreedomTest website. Older players might remember there was a main/backup server setup which allowed me to keep the server up, but about a year ago the ISP I used as backup decommissioned their old network in which I had a public IP address. This means the only thing I can do right now is to wait for my current ISP to fix their stuff.

There is no need to worry about world data and player progress as that is safe in my server storage.

I know this is frustrating, and it is for me as well. If you know of other players that might be unaware of this problem please let them know about my post here.

I will continue posting here if I get news from my ISP.

My ISP fixed their network and the server has been online for about a week, however there are still frequent connection issues. Everything is running normally again, hopefully the ISP solves the remaining issues before Christmas time.

Hello, the Minetest server and associated services are currently down because the host computer experienced a hardware failure. It is most likely the power supply that gave up after about 4 years of 24/7 operation and many power outages. I already installed my backup power supply into another computer that failed so I do not have one to spare right now. It may take a few weeks to get a new one or repair this one, which unfortunately means the server will stay down for now. I will post an update when there are some news.
