Do you have CD/DVD-Rom drive? If yes, you can download an ISO image of a live version of linux and try it before installing. Here is a version for linux noobs
http://www.ubuntu.com/download I will say one thing though. If you can't figure out how to burn an image to a CD and boot it than do not even waste your time with Linux. As much as people in the Linux community would like everyone to get on the bandwagon, Linux is not for computer noobs. For starters, you will need to be familiar with command line stuff to get the most out of the system. If you had someone to sit you down and show you the basics, that is one thing. Unfortunately, right now there is a big mess going on with GNOME3 and KDE4 (those are different GUI frontends) being so messed up that jumping in now might just be confusing. Sorry for the rant.
