[1405.00][Classic] darkrose's servers [0.3.x compatible]
[1405.00][Classic] darkrose's servers [0.3.x compatible]
As 0.4.x has just become slow, and lacking in fun for me I've restarted development of the 0.3.x series as Minetest Classic. All of these servers run Minetest Classic, but can still be played on (with some unknown blocks) with an old 0.3.x client.
Main Server
Address: minetest-classic.com
Port: 30000
Privs: shout and teleport, ask me for build; either here, on irc.freenode.net #minetest-classic, at the Minetest Classic Forums, or on the server.
Public Server
Address: public1.minetest-classic.com
Port: 30001
Privs: shout and build.
Creative Server
Address: public1.minetest-classic.com
Port: 30002
Privs: shoutt, ask me for build; either here, on irc.freenode.net #minetest-classic, at the Minetest Classic Forums, or on the server.
New features in Minetest Classic, not found in 0.3.x (everything except the new blocks, and 3D models work in original 0.3.x clients):
Cotton: craft from 4 junglegrass
5 Tree Types: oak, large oak, apple, jungle, conifer - each with their own saplings, wood, and leaves
Plant Growth: junglegrass and papyrus grow naturally
Apple Growth: apple trees grow apple blossom, which grow into apples
Border Stone: protector nodes, these stop players other than the owner digging/placing nodes within a 5 node radius.
Leaf Decay: because leaves hanging in the sky are ugly
Apple Drop: apples drop to the ground once the leaves are gone
Farming: place mud next to water, dig it with a shovel and it becomes farm dirt; can be used to grow papyrus, cactus, junglegrass, roses, daffodils, tulips, cotton, wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroot, grapes.
Rat Death: rats die in lava
Stairs and Slabs: 7 types of each, as well as the upside down versions.
Stone Blocks: a more polished stone block, made from regular stone.
Stone Bricks: kinda self explanatory.
Glass Light: a clear light source.
3D player models: and 3D mobs.
Dyes: 8 colours that can be used to colour glass, glass slabs, glass panes, cotton, carpet, beds, clay, and probably other stuff I've forgotten.
Roofs: a proper roof draw type that allows for sloped roofs with neat capping and corners.
And a whole lot more.
With several hundred node types and crafting recipes, I took the easy way out, rather than keeping track of all the recipes I just made an in-game craft guide (there's also cooking, and decrafting guides, but you can get the recipes for those from the craft guide):
The source, as well as precompiled binaries for windows (thanks to Menche's awesome build script) of Minetest Classic are available at the Minetest Classic Website.

Not everyone is capable of having a powerful computer, so a server like this is good for those that don't. If you are not aware of this already, Minetest 0.4.6 does have jungles and dungeons in it, but there are probably computers that can't run it.

(quite unrelated to the server) I am having trouble building minetest 0.3 with irrlicht 1.8... and with 1.7.3 I got a segfault at startup of minetest, so I think I'll give up...
I made a few (a lot of?) mods for minetest: here is a list.

Try downloading 0.3.1 stable off of Minetest's main site.Zeg9 wrote:(quite unrelated to the server) I am having trouble building minetest 0.3 with irrlicht 1.8... and with 1.7.3 I got a segfault at startup of minetest, so I think I'll give up...
To anybody else that reads this, 0.4.6 can't connect to 0.3.1 servers. You must download and use 0.3.1.

I could connect with the help of wine, but well, 0.3.1 is pretty boring...Inocudom wrote:Try downloading 0.3.1 stable off of Minetest's main site.Zeg9 wrote:(quite unrelated to the server) I am having trouble building minetest 0.3 with irrlicht 1.8... and with 1.7.3 I got a segfault at startup of minetest, so I think I'll give up...

EDIT: though the textures are good there, too... I wonder if there is a texture pack using 0.3.1 textures.
EDIT2: Now I let you talk about the server, not about 0.3.1...

Assuming your name in-game is Menche, you have build.Menche wrote:Could I get build?
And is it really running 0.3.1? The latest 0.3 version is 0.3.3.
The server is a bit of a patched hybrid of 0.3.x + leaf decay, and some other things I can't remember at the moment. I just call it 0.3.1 as it works with that, and that's the version debian has in their repos.
This is the first one I tried. But never mind.Melkor wrote:how about this: https://github.com/minetest/minetest/tree/stable-0.3Zeg9 wrote:(quite unrelated to the server) I am having trouble building minetest 0.3 with irrlicht 1.8... and with 1.7.3 I got a segfault at startup of minetest, so I think I'll give up...

Um, oops!
I accidentally deleted the latest version of the map, not all is lost, just anything built in the past 24 hours or so... which is a lot.
Sorry.
I've got a better backup mechanism in place now though.
To make it up to you a bit we now have cotton on the server, crafted from 4 jungle grass arranged in a square.
Also, papyrus and jungle grass now grow (very slowly).
This all works with the standard 0.3.x client; you don't need anything special to get the new nodetype or anything... by default cotton is using the cloud.png texture, so replace that with a better one if you want your cotton to look more like cotton and not just a white block. No, replacing it won't make clouds look wierd, clouds don't use that texture.
Also, I'm going to turn on creative mode for a while this weekend.
