Minetest 0.4.7 released!

by PilzAdam » Post

Hello everyone!
Another stable release: 0.4.7!
Many cool features are added (like farming) and many bugs are fixed. The way you install mods is slightly improved and common is dropped. For a full list of what has changed or what is added see the changelog.

Download (windows build): http://minetest.ru/builds/minetest-0.4.7.zip
Changelog: http://dev.minetest.net/Changelog#0.4.6_.E2.86.92_0.4.7
Sourcecode: https://github.com/minetest/minetest/tree/0.4.7
MSVC needs one commit more to build properly, we have set up a tag for that too: https://github.com/minetest/minetest/tree/0.4.7-MSVC

launchpad is done with its builds, so the stable ppa has version 0.4.7, too.

I wanted to leave a comment on that before 0.4.7 is released, but anyway:
It is stupid. It makes installing mods more complicated. While it is still easy: put them into the folder and enable them, it requires one more step that is not necessary, and it will confuse people - those new and those who are old to minetest. Also, it takes a nice feature for game-mode-support. Until now you could make one folder for every game and use different mods for different games, which is logical, because games can differ much, not every mod works for every game and you don't want every mod in every game. Like minetest_game now has farming, realtest don't. Now you have to manage everything by hand, which is just unnecessary more work.
I recommend one folder named "all" for mods, that works just like the new system, but with all the mods in there enabled by default. And the possibility to make separate folders for the individual games, so the mods in the folder are only enabled for the game.

The ores that come with the game are: gold, diamond, iron, copper, mese, and bronze. The ones moreores add now is mithril and silver. Some mods still need mroeores (for the mithril and silver) though.

In my opinion, Minetest now has enough ores :) And those who still want more, can install moreores.

No, but BlockMen's default_plus mod adds transparent ice, plus a lot of other stuff.

Its too glitchy currently, someone needs to add proper alpha sorting to the engine.

Doesn't irrlicht implement that?
I mean, that's one of the features most people want from a 3d engine...
And why not doing it like water, I know it's glitchy but still better than the current semi-transparent implementation.
I made a few (a lot of?) mods for minetest: here is a list.
See also the MT-Faithful texture pack (work in progress).
