This mod is a show-case how the calibrated compass [ccompass] https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=17881 can be used in other gameplay related mods.

Waypoint nodes/Re-calibration mode
Any new player get initially a pre-calibrated compass.
The re-calibration is enabled, but allowed only on waypoint nodes.
Following the compass you find a waypoint node under the surface (looks like mese).
The compass is re-calibrated to the next waypoint if the first one is punched
Instead of the 10.th waypoint you find a surprise

Chest mode:
Any new player get initially a pre-calibrated compass.
The re-calibration is disabled.
Following the compass you find a chest under the surface.
The chest contains the next pre-calibrated compass to the next chest.
In the 10.th chest you find a surprise instead of the next compass.

This is awesome. I wonder how it can be optimized even further. Do the player end up with 10 compasses in the end or does something else happen with the former ones? What if there was a recalibration node that recalibrated the compass on use?

At the time it is just a "Tech-Demo". The player ends up with 10 compasses he cannot recalibrate, and the gift.
I think about a recalibration node instead of the chest as second game variant but I need a small enhancemend on ccompass on this (read target from node meta if set instead of use the node position). It is on my roadmap now..

Maybe anyone can create a whole game on this, not me, I develop usually prototypes or frameworks only ;-/

Cool. That anyone should probably be someone like me, but for now I'd like to include something similar to schnitzeljagd as a smaller feature. It does posess great potential for game progression!

New "recalibrate" game mode finished. Mese-like waypoint nodes (maybe other textures?) instead the chests are placed now. The first compass is used all the time by recalibration on waypoints.
The old chests+multi-compass game mode can be still enabled in settings.

The latest ccompass version required as of tonight.

Awesome. Is the last point still a chest?

sounds like a good way to learn how to use co-ords and the compass
seriously I can't get my head wrapped around them thats why a good chunk of my builds are a stones throw from each other
good mod :D

I tried the new recalibration mode but the compass needle doesn't update to the new direction, although its tooltip gets updated. So I can only navigate properly to the first position.
