dear all, maybe a lot of time is passed from the last post about this topic but I have copied animals_modpack-2.5.0 in minetest-0.4.15-win64 and I'd like to kill a deer to receive horns or bone or meat but nothing, I kill the animal but nothing is left. Moreover I add a minetest log inside function deer_m_drop() but when the deer is killed nothing is written.
You can find in the following the log files.
Could you help me to understand why the function deer_m_drop() seems not to be called? I saw that it is present in local deer_m_prototype->generic->kill_result, so maybe it is a problem of kill_result, who call it?

I'm not an expert. Do i have to use this command for more debug info or for properly working?
Where do i have to run this command?
Is the command exactly the same or do i have to change something in [code] or [\code]?

Hi. I am new to Minetest (downloaded it today) and am not at all experienced with mods. When I enable the mod in the world configuration, I get errors when I click to play the game. It gives me unresolved name conflicts for nearly all the subfolders of the mods (e.g. "mob_miner"). I am not sure if this is a common error or something easily fixed. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Yesterday i tried this mod for the first time, and ive found a quite like it except for a few things: models and sounds are of low-quality, healthbar usually doesnt stay with the mobs , and the fact that a chicken lays eggs as sprites instead of a dropped item, and lastly, the traders formspec can be confusing. besides that i quite like this mod, especially the fact that mobs actually run away when attacked.

I've installed the development version, and after moving some folders around have got to a point where minetest is only complaining about two dependency problems:

1) 'mob_npc' seems to require 'quest_engine'. I found a similarly named mod, 'quests', at viewtopic.php?f=11&t=11265&start=25. Is that the correct one? If so, there is a problem in that because the names do not exactly match, the dependency does not resolve.

2) 'mob_npc' seems to require 'utils'. I've found a mod called 'utils' at viewtopic.php?f=9&t=13219. Is that the correct one?

I'm new to minetest, so I'm not sure how important this is.

I've currently trying to get animals working on a very old map, and I've got 2 questions:
1) Settings allow to set the secondary spawning, but it does nothing for me (visually) and I've found to references to this settings in the code. Is secondary spawning removed?
2) Could you add a command to initialize the spawners all over the map the same way it does when the world is generated? I could run it on an old map, wait some time and get the primary algorithm working.

BUG REPORT (fix included)

Hi. I'm using debian's version of minetest "0.4.16+repack-2~bpo9+1", which seems to be the up-to-date version as far as I can tell.

I ran into a error when the program tried accessing mob_ghost/init.lua that seems to me to be because at some point the minetest developers changed global variable "LIGHT_MAX" to "default.LIGHT_MAX".

This seems to an issue in many lua files for many mods.

The fix is to navigate to root directory of the animals modpack and (if you have nerves of steel . . . and a backup):

If you use the stable release,

Stable Download:
Primary : Version 2.5.0 (Dig it)


with minetest-0.4.16, and you separate out the animals_modpack directory from the extracted animals_modpack-2.5.0 directory, it will run and you will see animals.

The github page indicates that the last commit was in March, 2017, so not years ago at all, and it is packaged for debian, so you can bet that the stable release does work. As for the advice to use "mobs_redo", that does sound reasonable, but you taint that advice when you write it in the same short post as your two mis-statements.

Thanks. One of the reasons that I was using the development edition was to see whether I could help with bug-fixing, either by reporting a bug, or by fixing one. If my fix is correct (and it does seem to be working), I hope the developer @sapier keeps up with this thread.

To use animals modpack development version (2.6) you must install manually the last version of all the components from https://github.com/sapier
I think that for 2.6 there is not a consolidated zip file yet. The development is still active but is slow and looks like sapier not have enough time to post in this forum.

You can find utils, quest_engine, mobs_environments in the components of https://github.com/sapier sometimes in the master branch or in the 2.6 branch, so you must check it carefully.

The github page indicates that the last commit was in March, 2017, so not years ago at all, and it is packaged for debian, so you can bet that the stable release does work. As for the advice to use "mobs_redo", that does sound reasonable, but you taint that advice when you write it in the same short post as your two mis-statements.


Sorry, I suppose I should have looked at the Github page, rather than when the post was updated. The stable version (which does work apparantly) however has not been updated in years (0.4.13 era)

I have exactly the same problem with minetest-4.16 and animals_modpack-2.5.0 from the stable debian repository... None of the killed mobs is dropping anything....

EDIT: I could fix it by editing /usr/share/games/minetest/mods/mobf/mobf/fighting.lua

I changed following line:

I know this is a dirty hack, but it works :)


EDIT2: Ok this only works with wooden sword. The problem is, that entity.object:get_hp() holds the value BEFORE the mob being hit. This seems to be fixed in Animals Modpack 2.6. But all in all I recommend to use Mobs Redo instead of this Modpack. I created a bugreport for the debian maintainers teling them that animals modpack is outdated: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=890864

Hi there,

I had various problems with the 2.6_dev versions downdoaded from git running on a 0.4.16 server. (I had to relogin to the forum after submit and my first text with all relevant logentries was lost. It's late and I don't want to type everything once again... >.<)

The final question is: Is it possible to run the stable v2.5, disabled everything exept trader and its dependencies simultanous to Mods Redo?

Thanks for helping me out. If you really want to know the issues, I try to explain it once again after request.

Hi There,

I've decided to use the Animals Modpack 2.5 as a minimal edition only for traders, miners, archers, guards and ostriches (to ride them) simultanously with the Mobs Redo mod. It seems to work. But with Animals Modpack I get several times per second this log entry:

I am not a lua programmer, but can you tell me how to change the code from the mintest.setting_* function to the minetest.settings object? Could it be done with a simple text replacement?

how do i spawn animals? i tried /mobf, but it said -!- invalid Command "mobf", i restarted it
