[Mod] Honeypots [0.1.1] [honeypots]

by minermoder27 » Sun Dec 22, 2013 06:20

This mod adds honeypots to minetest.

It is made for large server admins.

A honeypot is a block that, when someone digs it, they get a 'honeypot point' (or hpp).

When someone has more than 10 hpp they get banned.

TO USE:

first, grant yourself the honeypot privilege.

then, go into a city on your server and build a house. Put some nice blocks inside it.

Now type "/honeypot set" to toggle honey pot mode. When you are in honey pot mode and punch a node, that node is now a honeypot.

The idea of this is that you make lots of nice blocks and turn them into honey pots. Nice players will not steal these blocks, but not so nice players will.

EDIT:
To see all the honeypots near you type "/honeypot get"

VERSIONS:
0.1.1: If someone fixes the honeypot they loose the hpp

This might sound underhanded to some people, but landrush really isn't too different from this. There are a few examples of this sort of stuff used against evildoers in the Bible to expose their wickedness.

The problem with the landclaim mod is that it's just a question of time until regular players are banned. It happens all the time. Of course unbanning is no problem then. Those arn't evil griefers but builders who seek material and - usually due to lag - did not see that a random piece of land with some nature on was protected by someone.

The idea of this mod here seems fine. If it stores attemted digs over a long time, it might eventually ban legitimate players as well - mouse accidents do happen (i.e. random spots at spawn on the ground). The difference is that a legitimate player will try to fix the accidently destroyed node once he notices.

Perhaps the mod could be more useful as an information tool that shows moderators which players they ought to keep a closer look on. After all if the player truely griefed then a rollback might be in order.

Maybe I will make it that if a player fixes what he has done then the point will be removed

This is far more useful than ShadowNinja's *useless* areas mod (it takes a while to get started with - and has bad systems of areas, each player gets their own area, rather than appending the player to the first area assigned table.) which - this mod is awesome, simply because it could be used in such a way that people (who are either dumb, or simply want to grief) will find themselves banned after awhile.

Something else that came to mind: expect empty houses on servers with this mod installed: simply because they are large honeypots, as griefers [they] would look for a normal building; which would be more appealing to the griefer - however, an empty house would indicate that it is a honeypot; and be avoided.

Maybe make a mine and put up a sign that says "PRIVATE - DO NOT ENTER" and put some nice ores into it.

So how do you determine if that block or node is protected or something?

If you have the honeypot priv, then type "/honeypot get".

Nasty people should not know, as then that would render this mod useless.
